I was just wondering if you can oil pinking shears, or for that matter scissors, when they get stiff. I was using my grandma's pinking shears to cut out an apron and they are so stiff it hurts. I can't believe that there isn't something you can do but I haven't found anything in any of my books - anyone know?

I have oiled mine right at where the joint is.. and wipe it clean and cut, cut, cut on old scraps of fabric to be sure there is no oil residue to get on your good fabric.

Quick note, be sure to use sewing machine oil. It is designed to not stain fabric.

Okay I oiled them and they are still really stiff - is this just a function of pinking shears in general or is it because my grandma probably had these for 70 years? She was known to hold onto stuff for a really long time.....

Try cutting some aluminum foil with them, sometimes that loosens them a bit.
