I know it isn't really the season for this, but I just wanted to post what I think is the best idea my mom has ever had: fabric Christmas bags.

Instead of fussing with wrapping paper or paper gift bags, my mom buys Christmas fabric on clearance, from thrift stores, Mill's End, etc. and sews simple bags in a variety of sizes and shapes. Some are drawstring, others just have a ribbon tacked to one side of bag to tie the top off.

Wrapping presents is SOOOO easy! Just find a bag that fits, stick the present in, and tie the ribbon off! They are (of course) completely reusable and when we give gifts to friends and relatives, they give us our bags back!

You could do this with birthday/children's fabric too for birthdays, or pretty patterns for other presents, too.

I know all you farmgirls are crafty, but busy around holiday time, so I thought this would be a good idea to share to make your lives a little easier! Besides, if you start now, just imagine how many bags you could have done by Christmas! :) This project is perfect for 1/4 and 1/8 yard scraps, too.

Aren't they just wonderful!!! I do the same and have the folks keep the bag to reuse when they need a "quick wrap". Also, they make for a great gift, make several up to give to a new Mom, Bride to be, you get the idea!

That's a good idea!
I have to send some gifts off in the mail and that's alot better than paper.
Besides, If I make them in her colors she'll be able to use them for something else later!

My quilt club is looking for a simple project to do in order to use up their leftover scraps and quilt pieces. So, I thought I would suggest this to them and with all the various size bags we make, we could then sell these to help raise the money needed for the quilts we give away to those in need.

What have all you you been making? Any pictures? "Vintagejenta" you really started something girl!!!

I found some on-sale Xmas fabric and this is now on the to-do list. I had used old maps for years, but ran out. :( This is a good idea and everyone will expect something like this from me. hehe

Sarah you where reading my mind - I brought home the holiday fabric that did not sell in my shop and was beginning to start cutting and sewing them into bags. Your right, we are always hit with more things to do then time so I figured if I got the cutting done then when ever the mood and time allowed I could quickly sew some and be ahead of the game.

Great minds think alike - at least that is what I am telling
myself.
