I'm thinking of lining it with heavy plastic, drilling a few holes and making a portable salad growing cart I can haul it to the shade during the heat of the day and keep a small salad cutting crop in it all spring, summer and early fall.
Just came up with the idea, We have a bunch of old beat up wheel barrows around here, so I'm gonna put the oldest ones to a new use.
Anyone else growing a salad cart or such? I'd like to know if my idea is a good one.

Last year I had a large planter I tried to grow lettuce abd spinach in. It did pretty well, we went on a long vacation and the girls watering for me forgot about it. I love the idea of usinf an old wheelbarrow though. Good luck, Carol

Annika, that's a great idea! You are a very resourceful farmgirl! I had an old wheelbarrow I planted flowers in but the salad cart sounds good to get it out of the hot sun. Now I'll have to go look for old wheelbarrows.

AWESOME, I figured it would work well. Good use for a wheel barrow that was $4 at a yard sale!

Thats funny, I bought an old wheelbarrow last year for just that purpose. My hubby planted the garden and had no room for my lettuce. So I found the old wheelbarrow. I unfortunatly did not get it planted because my husband got sick. So this year I will get it done.

Annika: Good idea. We had an old wheel barrow and planted only onion top seeds. Wow!!!!! we sure had an abundance of delicious onion tops. Marly

Annika, that is a super idea!! I used to have my Dad's old steel wheelbarrow, I used it all the time, but never would have planted in it because I used it SO much, if I had it now, I'd make a salad cart too!! You go girl!!

What a great idea If I had an old cart I would do that. A movable garden....That is great. I bet herbs would be nice like that too. Angelyn
