I splurged and bought some big Tupperware containers. They're awfully expensive but they do have a great guarantee. Now I'm looking for big pickle jars - might have to befriend some deli managers...

I love looking at the local thrift stores, antique stores, and flea markets... i've found all my storage containers for that type of thing. you just never know what you'll find at these places!

I will always prefer Tupperware because they DO seal!!!

And, you CAN sometimes find them at yard sales and thrift stores.

If you go to restaurants they receive their pickles and condiments in large snap lid buckets that work great. Usually they throw these out so most likely will be free.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

I too splurged on Tupperware...if you have a party, you get things for free so that is a great way to get them too.

I use 1 gallon glass jars, I get them from all differant places, including my G/sons school. When storing flour's, I use some plastic wrap between the jar and lid, makes an airtight seal, then those jars go in the freezer, keeps it fresh and bug free. These jars last forever (just don't drop them, lol), much cheaper than plastic containers from who ever and they can be sterilized. I have my sugars, beans, all flours, etc stored this way, and you can decorate the jars to match your decor if you want.

Thank all of you for the great ideas! Teresa, I like the idea of the glass jars, I'll have to start looking for some.

I use the ones that the horse supplements come in. MSM comes in a great heavy duty plastic jar, gallon size, hoof supplement comes in a two gallon square plastic bucket, there are some all natural treats that come in a heavy plastic jug. I love the horse containers. Going to buy the stuff anyway might as well use them and save the money on buying plastic.

For storing large quantities of flour I use those big blue rubbermaid totes. The largest one holds 75 lbs of flour. I use the restaurant buckets for sugar and rice - they hold about 25 lbs. Glass is ok but make sure that light isn't an issue with what you are storing. Herbs esp. do better without a lot of light. Tupperware never worked out well for me as the mice chew right through the seals! I live in a log house and as much as I try to keep the mice out....it's a losing battle most years.

For storage I prevail upon the local coffee shop owner for his leftover pickle and mayo buckets. The lids have a rubber seal and they are tight! If you use large amounts of flour and such these are great!
The other things I use are canning jars. The local True Value hardware has a bunch of different sizes, including some BIG jars [maybe intended for cookies?].
Smiles!

I went to the restaurant supply place in town, got fabulous big containers for flour and sugar. I also use gallon glass jars and then 1/2 pint size canning jars for herbs and spices

Ebay is a good place, too. If you have a particular size, color, theme, etc. you can find just about anything.
