Hi!

We are finally getting chicks this year! We are chomping at the bit to get them. We have a few breeds picked out, but are having a hard time finding a store that is carrying all of the breeds we want. Is it okay to mix sources if they are hatched within a couple days of each other? For example, gentleman A has two breeds we'd like and the local feed store has a couple others around the same time. So can I get some from each of these sources and raise them all together? Just didn't know if that was okay for optimum chicken health. Thanks!

I am no expert, but as long as they are very close in age and size, I don't see why not. I guess disease spreading from one to the other would maybe the only problem that I see.
Good luck! You'll love having them!

Yes, you'll do just fine. I'm SO envious. I promised myself I would not get more chickens until I get a new chicken house. This year, our own house and the barn are at the top of the list. Next spring I can buy chicks too. I hatched out my own for several years when I was well stocked, but when I did buy replacements, I always mixed them. They just need to be close in age and not crowded.

Sonja, when they are little it's fine to add new ones. It's when they are older it gets real hard to do. They can be very mean. But when they are only a few weeks old all they see is the food. They don't notice when you put new chicks in.

Have fun with them!
