There is peace within a garden,a peace so deep and calm, that when the heart is troubled, it's like a soothing balm. There's life within a garden,a life that still goes on.Filling the empty places when older plants have gone. There's glory in the garden at every time of year.Spring, summer, autumn, winter, to fill the heart with cheer. So ever tend your garden, its beauty to increase. For in it you'll find solace. And in it you'll find peace.
(sampler at London's Museum of Garden History)

I loved the poem, there is so much truth to it.
This plaque belonged to my Father who spent hours and hours out in his garden. He called his garden his church. I find myself lost in garden work too, especially when things are heavy on my heart. I love garden poetry! Thank you for sharing your poem!

Take care,

Carla...

If you treat an individual as what he is, he will stay that way, but if you
treat him as if he were what he could be, he will become what he could be.

Oh Carla, thanks for sharing that, my grandmother had a similar plaque in her garden and it made me think about her..... She was quite a gardener.

:) I am so glad I found this photo! This is from last years garden.
I miss my Dad too... He got this plaque from my Mother as a birthday gift over 30 years ago. When they sold their house I took it along with me.. I am glad I did.

Take care,

Carla...

Dorothy what a lovely poem. I love poems, prose and all writing about gardens. Thanks for sharing it. Do you have a short growing season in Alaska? I've always wanted to visit Alaska, hope too someday.

Hi Michele,Yes,we have a VERY short growing season here. Can't plant out till June 1st.I do get alot started in cold frames and my friends are planting peas now!!It was 32 degrees this am.Yesterday it was 29 with ice on the puddles, brrrr. We do cover our plants in the cold frames with a cloth called Remay. It acts like a blanket to help protect them from the cold.Well if any farm girl comes to Alaska, you BETTER come and see me!!!! I need to get a bumper sticker so I'm easy to find!!! P.S. send photos!!! I need to ohhh and ahhh when I see green happening.Hug yer horse!!!

Hi Alison,I think I want to stitch it too, maybe a winter project.I am growing just about everything.Trying some new stuff this year, like red brussel sprouts and lots of oriental greens.Love red lettuce, brite lites chard, herbs, carrots, spinach, potatoes,(different kinds).Red kale and munchkin broccoli.Bronze fennel(great with fish)! zucchini squash(in the cold frames)after they are used for hardening off,and Siberia tomatoes(cherry type)on the window sills and basil on the sun porch! I got my horse from Lamont, outside Edmonton,is that close to you?My friends just moved to Alberta Beach.
