Gotta hand it to Pier One!... Their ads in the fall editions of several magazines are quite inviting.... Things like using straw bales covered with multi-colored, woven rag rugs for seating at a big farm table; Mexican looking blankets for tablecloths, candles, old buckets, etc... This type theme could really be adapted to any kind of outdoor celebration, couldn't it? I think in the wedding topic we discussed many options like using quilts, canning jars. I guess this just piqued my imagination on what the possibilites really are. A bit cold here now to try it locally, but lots of good ideas to add to the summer entertaining possibilites. I only entertain my extended family in the summer because my home is quite small and impossible to hold everyone! So, I'll begin to plan now for my next family gathering. I'll pull out my vintage tablecloths and napkins and let that be my cue!

Is there anyone out there that did this type of entertaining this summer? How did it go, how was it received? Love to hear more ideas too!

I'm planning a country style wedding next spring, and the idea of using straw bales sounds fantastic. I might just use that! Thanks

Good Julie! Make sure you plan to cover them with small rugs or something substantial, as straw is prickly and will also stick to clothing. But there's nothing more country than straw bales!

In the years that I spent studying with "Wolf" my Shaman, we had many such celebrations. At the end of every group session there was a big celebration honoring those of us that reached a new level and were moving on. We used a large outdoor kitchen area and built straw bale couches all around the outside walls. Covered them with Pendelton Blankets and hung more pendelton blankets or serapes from the ceiling and covered the tables with the same. We also used lots of very large balloons in bright rainbow colors tied into big bunches all around the grounds. I have not seen Pier ones adds yet but what you describe sounds very much like this. It was festive and colorful. Eileen
