goo gone is the greatest! I have used it forever and only a tiny bit will get rid of anything I've come across. Great product!

As mentioned, Goo-Gone generally does the trick but I try to keep the sticky stuff on whatever I'm trying to remove. Depending on what it is... I either fill it, such as a jar, with really hot water and wait a minute or use my hairdryer to gently heat the label such as on a book. Then, carefully, while the goo is still warm, remove it. One of these owrks most the time.

You could try lighter fluid, too. That has always worked well for me!
