We are planning to paint our barn this summer and I am very close to deciding on my barn quilt design. For those of you who don't happen to have a barn, you could consider a miniature on your mailbox! A good friend of mine made a 18x18 miniature barn quilt for my for Christmas, it's a treasure! Don't let what you don't have limit your imagination ladies.

I'm sooo excited about this article! I've been wanting to make a "quilt" for our barn since I first saw pictures of them. I am eagerly awaiting this next issue. It can't get here soon enough :)

I have to laugh & grin at all the hubby comments of yours...when we bought this place 3 yrs ago the reason we got it was because of a 50ft x 20ft shop that I claimed as my own for a art shop in stained glass & silversmithing....since he is not a garage type man I knew the only thing he would use it for is to park the car or lawnmower in...but to be fair I gave him the biggest bedroom in the house for his TV, books, games ect..plus I even hooked up the TVO up in there for him....anyway as you can see I am head strong & I do as I want...lol I am also the one with all the power tools...I have heard & seen these barn quilts & think they are lovely reminds me of the amish barn things they have...can't think of the name right off the bat.....it will be another thing to add to my 'to do' list this year....Michele'

Hello, getting back to MJF after a long break, but I knew that this is the place to go for the information I need.

I live in SE Missouri and belong to a local tourism organization. We are wanting to do a barn quilt project and quilt show next May. We have lots and lots of ideas, but curious to chat with anyone who has been on the planning side of an event like this. What's the best way to get it started? Who are key people to talk to?

I appreciate any and all input that you all have, I just know this is the right place to start. Thanks so much. So glad to be back on the forum.

Blessings,
Lynda

Thank you very much, I just got done looking at it and, "Wow, do we have our work cut out for us." Do you live in this area? Have you participated in this one or any quilt trail/tour?

If anyone else has been involved with organizing a barn quilt trail, please feel free to contact me, there's so much more to know and learn. Thanks very much.

Enjoy the blessings of your day.

I wonder if this is a take-off of the old Pennsylvania "hex signs" on barns? I studied those back in the 70's....

MrsAmy, they make fake stain glass window stuff, you could incorporate that into the quilt. You just put it over existing windows. However, the stuff doesn't come off easy, it does take some work.

Oh my, I love this! Tracy, I believe I'm going to borrow your idea, and put one on my coop, to begin with. Who knows, then I may think the goat barn needs one, too. LOVE THIS!!

I love barn quilts. I make them and attached to our privacy fence. I have been making them for several years out of 4x4 pieces of plywood. I gift them for friends to have special meaning. They are so much fun! Attached is a picture of some I have painted.

I'm trying to get a Country Barn Quilt Trail started around where I live in east Texas. I heard a presentation on Country Barn Quilt Trails and think it is a wonderful idea. I am going to have one made for the side of my barn as soon as I can find someone to do it.
