Caitie performed in the ISSMA solo & ensemble contest this morning with a couple of her friends. They did really good. They each got a silver medal!! This is their second year in band and their first year to go to contest. Congratulation girlies!!! Yes Yes I'm a proud mamma!

Congratulations to your DD! I remember those solo & ensemble contests well--they were a lot of fun and I got to hear some very talented musicians. what instrument does Caitie play? I have never regretted the hours I spent playing my saxophone. Gee, now I'm starting to feel nostalgic! Again, congratulations! cindy |

Congratulations! I was involved in band and choir as a teenager and it brought some wonderful, lifelong memories. But as I think back on it now, I think that watching my own kids perform was even better. It sounds like Caitie and her friends are really doing well for just getting started. There is a lot of time and work involved in doing well and they are learning that it is rewarding too! That in itself is a tremendous life skill.

Oh yes they had a great time! Caitie is thinking about doing a solo as well as an ensemble next year, but she also wants to join choir. I don't think they can do both in middle school but we will have to see. She plays the alto sax. I always wanted to play that in school, but I have fat lips and couldn't squeeze a note out edge-wise. So I went into choir. I love how the band program around here has changed since I was a kid. If there's an instrument a child really wants to learn to play, the band instructors make an honest attempt and helping them learn. Not like way back, if you couldn't play what you wanted they handed you a clarinet and said "anyone can play this." There isn't anything at all wrong with the clarinet, but if a child doesn't have any interest in that instrument, they probably will not take it very far. Thank you for letting me brag on my lil girl. Hahaha she probably skin me for calling her little.
