I am looking for black, brown, tan or Charcoal worsted weight, machine washable wool blended yarns to knit balaclavas (helmet liners) for our troops in the middle east. They have to endure well below zero temperatures. This type of yarn and colors are military rules for us to follow. I have a dear friend of MANY years that is over there right now with special ops. He has expressed how terribly cold it is.

If you have some of this to barter please let me know so we can work something out.
I have a HUGE yarn stash I use for teaching young women and children how to knit, but I do not have any of this type of yarn.

Thank you in advance

What about asking some of us to knit some for you to donate? All we need is a pattern.

Hey all, It is my understanding that the helmet liners must be all wool as it is fire has more natural fire retardant qualities than the mix of acrylic or any other man made stuff. Our guys over there are subject to explosions etc and anything other than wool melts into wounds and makes a mess. So please only all wool. I will post the site that gives you the pattern and where to send it as soon as I find it again. It is in my pile of knitting patterns that one day I will get a handle on and get organized. And thank you so much Angela for thinking of all our guys and gals over there. They are indeed in miserable conditions and the "wollie pullies" as they call them, sure do help against the cold.

However, If you use all wool....IT CAN NOT FELT. It has to be machine washable and dryable. There are MANY different organizations that are doing these. It is not just one.
