Last Saturday I went to the 'Country Living Expo and Cattleman's Winterschool'. It was held at Stanwood High School. It started at 7:30 until 5:00. It was great. There are 138 classes offered and you can only choose 5. So since I have just--well last year--got some fiber goats I did mostly goat and wool stuff. I also did a GPS class. And 2 spindle spinning class. That was the most fun. Actually the goat classes were just OK. The lunch offered was Prime Rib Baked Potato, veggies, 4 different salads and desserts. Water or milk. There also was an excellent Vegetarian dinner offered. the was also a Trade Show going the whole time--farm stuff, ranching stuff, Soaps, candles, wool etc. And there was a wheel spinning area when one could watch or practice on a wheel. I watched but need some lessons. So here are some pics: The spinners: Bags of wool:
spinning spindles: My spinning class. Look how intent everyone is.
Wildcrafter (Suzanne) was there at the trade show. I waited and waited to see her but she was busy elsewhere. She is a MJ farmgirl. Look her up.
I just wanted to add about the spindles we used: she made them out of a CD, a dower, a couple of spacers to hold the CD on the dowel and a hook for the top. Inexpensive if one wants to try. I found it clumsy--for me--but kinda neat too. MB
