Hi farmgirls -
I have been dating a wonderful man for about 2-1/2 years. For the past year his health has been steadily declining (forgot to mention -I'm 55 and he's 62, so we're not kids). This weekend was the worst yet. He has pain in his lungs, coughs constantly, is short of breath with even a little exertion, is too tired to do anything but sit and watch TV or sleep in the chair. He can't even sleep lying down because of the cough. He absolutely refuses to go to a doctor.
I love this man with all my heart, and I am so afraid of losing him. I'm at my wits end, and I don't know what to do or say any more.
Any advice along with your prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Luanne beekeepersgirl #691

Prayers sent. Maybe you need to be really upfront about it. SOmething like tell him you dont want to watch him die and he needs to see a Dr. I know of folks who develop asthma as adults and simple meds can help. Is he a smoker? |

Hi Robin -
Thanks for the prayers - I really appreciate it.
He was a smoker, but quit 20+ years ago. I have said everything I can possibly think of to him and he just says he doesn't believe in or trust doctors. A year or so ago his mother almost died from a doctor who incorrectly prescribed medicine for her - so he has no use for the medical profession.

You can't make decisions for him. All you can really do is tell him how you feel, then make a decision as to what is best for you. I know that sounds selfish but we can't make other people do what we want. Just be very open and up front about how you feel. Let him decide what he wants to do then do what is best for you.

What about going to a Naturapath doctor? Maybe he might feel more comfortable.
Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do! |

I never heard of Naturapath, but maybe I can find out something about it on-line.
Thanks! Luanne

Does he have children who can talk to him? I think I would say (I know you hate doctors but I can't keep watching you and not be upset, so please for me go to the doctors..I will go with you.) Saying a prayer for both of you.
Hope all your days are Sunnydays. dianebcarterhotmailcom.blogspot.com |

Luanne, My dad was that way and it was difficult. Other farmgirls have pretty much said it . . . you can't MAKE him do anything, but you can let him know what you feel and that you love him and don't to lose him. I will be praying . . . tough situation!! CJ

Thanks everybody - I really appreciate hearing from you. He does have a daughter, and I have thought of calling her. I don't know if that would make things better or worse, but she should know how ill her father is.

Luanne, Praying for you. My dad was the same. Honestly, I am somewhat the same myself. And I worked in the medical field my entire adult life. I think let his daughter know as well. Share your thoughts with him, but, ultimately it is his decision. A naturopath and alternative medicines use natural healing methods, less of all the drug companies. He just may be resistant to all of it though. Take care! Linda

You can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink. My Dad was the same way, God rest his soul. You just have to tell him how you feel, it may be something like pneumonia which can be fixed. My sister and I "made" my Dad go to the Dr. so maybe calling his daughter will help. Prayers out to you and your mate.
