Karrieann,

I am SO glad you got it, and so glad you like it! She was a precious precious, and talented lady. I love sharing my sweet Grandma with you!
I wrote this poem about her a while back...

Grandma

With fine thread
and tiniest silver hook
her lovely large hands loop
and pull gossamer treasures:
the chain-
stitch holding my life.

Fondly,
Lisa

Betty Jo,
Thank you so much for the beautiful hankie- now I'm the " Yellow Rose of Texas!"
I loved learning more about you and your family in the letter you sent!
Ladies, Betty Jo asked me to ponder on some hankie sentiments, and I'll post them for you, along with my answers. Anyone who wants to reflect on Betty Jo's questions, please post back!
1)What are your experiences with hankies?
Mine- my dad ALWAYS carried one, 100% of the time. Perfect for runny noses or removing unexpected dirt spots on hands and faces at Mass.

2)Did you ever receive a special one?
Mine- My grandmother brought one back from the homeland, Croatia, for me, in 1978. I still have it! it is orange and has a rooster on it. Hubby tired to get me to throw it out the other day- did he EVER get a quick history lesson from me about why I'll keep it FOREVER!

3) Do you have a favorite one? Describe it.
Oh my gosh, where to begin? My favorite one was given by my best friend- vintage reds and pinks, mostly flowers with hearts and scalloped edges. Lightweight and SOFT!

~ MAry LD

Haflingers- You can't have just one!
( I'm just one short of a drill team!)

Mary and Betty Jo,

I loved your 'hankie questions and reflections'! I would also like to respond to the questions you posed.

1)What are your experiences with hankies?
My Daddy also always has a hankie in his pocket; either a perfectly white and pressed hankie for church services, or the 'bandana' type for when he is working in the yard, etc. His hankies have wiped many a tear of mine.

When I went to kindergarten my mother wrapped my milk money in a pretty, pressed and starched hankie, that she neatly pinned to the waist of my dress. I still have those hankies today, as many of them were embroidered or were edged by my grandmother. They are precious to me still.

2)Did you ever receive a special one?
I have a very special, fine, lace-lined hankie that my grandmother made and presented to me when I graduated from highschool. Someday I will send it to my daughter; I have begun sending her my special hankies, one at a time.

3) Do you have a favorite one? Describe it.
My favorite is the hankie I described above. Often when I am wearing a suit or blazer, I wear that hankie just gently poking out of the breast pocket. I look down and think of my Grandma, again and again.

Thank you so much for allowing me to share.
Warmly,
Lisa Long

Mary, Betty Jo and Lisa, - Thanks for sharing, your memories are beautiful.
I'd also like to post my responses:
1)What are your experiences with hankies?
My dad also was always prepared (and still is as far as I know) with white for dress clothes and good ole' red or navy bandanas for hard work. I married a man just like him and am doubly blessed. And my Grandma ALWAYS had a pretty hankie in her purse, next to her pack of Trident gum. So, if you got a smudge on your face or a drippy nose, you were wiped with the softest, mintiest hankie around.

2)Did you ever receive a special one?
When my grandmother passed away, I was the only granddaughter interested in her lovely hankies, so I have most of those.

3) Do you have a favorite one? Describe it.
Wow, i could never pick a favorite of Grandma's - they're all special. I did buy a new "vintage" look hankie last Christmas that reminded me of my whole family. Snow-men, holly, scotch pine bows, red ribbon - just jolly! As the holiday always was at Grandma's house.

Thanks for the inspiration Betty Jo!
