National Creative Frugality Week??? I heard it on the radio this morning. They had a comedian talking about the ways her mother saved money by taking things from motels. She said it was ok as long as it wasn't bolted down. And her baby blanket had Delta on it.
So that got me thinking. How are you creative about being frugal? What do you do that's maybe embarrasing to your family? Or just off the wall frugal. Wanna share?

Well, I just back from the grocery store and used coupons. Saved myself 13.50. I was excited about that.

Well I use coupons and I reuse the gift boxes. I also reuse the tissue paper. If the tissue paper is torn badly I use it in crafts. I also make cards and sew alot of the clothes. Laurie

Good for you, Laura. I used to use coupons but now go to Aldi's. They don't take them there.
And I am the same way with the boxes and paper. I had quite a stack of boxes and finally had to get rid of them all. It was getting to be a fire hazard.
I use tin foil over and over til it falls apart. And baggies, too.

I do all of the above and recycle all scraps of paper to use as note paper. Mind you, just the ones not written on. I generally only have one to two lights on in the house in the evening, one in the kitchen and one in the living room. I hang my clothes to dry when possible. I often buy thrift clothes and other household items. And I use coupons at fabric stores, I usually forget the ones at the grocery store. But which is more important....? LOL

Reuse and recycle . . . I won't try to name the ways I do that, but I'm almost a "freak" about it!!!! People ask me where I get the things I use on my papercraft cards . . . EVERYWHERE!!! My eye is on everything. My hubby is the same way and he is known by name at all the local thrift stores. I don't go as often because he's self-employed and is able to, but he has his eye out for things for me too! He is a woodturner and knifemaker and he has built a lot of his own equipment instead of buying it from a manufacturer. My dad was that way . . . a farmer that didn't want to spend money on stuff he could invent and invent he did. I guess I come by it naturally!!! We are HUGE fans of barter and do it every chance we get!!!! THREE CHEERS FOR THE FRUGAL!! CJ

Ok, here's one ya'll didn't mention...and I'm shocked! hahhahaha.....because......it's January and everything I look at says, "Save Me, I can be used for planting seeds in!" Seriously! baked-good trays, yogurt cups, cookie trays, anything low with a brim. I go crazy with it, only in Jan-Feb tho, not the rest of the year. My DH and sis laugh at me.It's an automatic brain-spasm for me this time of year. Help! I've become my mother! lolol

I reuse sour cream and cottage cheese cartons. My kids tell me I take better care of them than I do my china. Oh, I forgot, I don't have any china. I wash and reuse zip lock bags unless they have had meat in them. We use oxyclean buckets for our compost buckets. (Rachel Ray wants almost $30 for the one she uses on her show). They are clean and can be set right on the counter while I peal veggies and stuff. Also use one to take garbage out to the chickens. Around here there is a difference in compost stuff and garbage. I never throw away heels or stale bread. I put it in the food processor and make bread crumbs. I was shocked to find out that you can BUY bread crumbs. Bigger shock to find our that people actually buy cracker crumbs!
