I'm working with a group of people to open a farmers market in our area. Our opening date is in March.
I'd love to hear your thoughts about farmers markets.....what you like, what you'd change, etc....
Our market is a bit unique....because of the geographical location and the demographics of the area, the market won't be so "farm-like". It's being advertised as a "gourmet farmers market". The income of families in the market area is quite affluent and yetthe people are very "earthy"......shop at Whole Foods in downtown Houston, buy organics at the grocery store, into health and fitness, buy natural items and are going green, but also dress very expensively and drive Mercedes and Cadillacs.
So, instead of homemade breads we have artisan breads, instead of goat milk cheese we have chevre', instead of fresh yard eggs we have eggs from free range chickens, etc.... get the idea?
side note.....we have 50 acres of land donated and have future plans on making a CSA, educational gardens, sustainable living education, livestock, etc...
SO.......your thoughts? any last minute advice?
Blessings Catherine
