My son is a Marine and is completing some training in 29 Palms. My nephew is in training to be a Corpman in Virginia for the Navy.

Gratefully living on the "fat of the land".

My son is in the Navy, 15 years now as an Aviation Ordinance person and daughter was in the Air Force five years as a linguist. Both have traveled the world and have really benefited from their time in service. Daughter was able to buy her own home at age 24. Congrats to your son and nephew!!!!

I was a Navy Corpsman in the 80's, I did a lot of training at 29 Palms. My hubby is retired Navy Chiel Corpsman. Wishing your son and nephew the best, Carol

My youngest son did 2 tours in Iraq, he was special ops. Hes been home now for 2 years last month. My late husband was in Nam, my Daddy was in WWII, and I can trace back to the civilwar on Mamas side.

Direct family...no. Former students (who are all "my kids")...many, in all branches of the service. I worry for them, their fellow service members, and their families. I am also thankful beyond words for their sacrifices!

I did 9+ years in the Army as a light wheel vehicle mechanic. Hubby did 7 years in the Navy as an electronics guy. One son-in-law is in the Army as a mine detector (he finds them and blows them up) and the other is a water purification specialist. Ex-son-in-law is is a helicopter mechanic in the Army. Daughter is former water purification specialist with the National Guard (8 years).

I have a baby brother in the Army in Afghanistan. He's been in 14 years now. 2 tours in Iraq before this one. My father and all of my uncles on both sides served in Viet Nam, Korea and my grandfather was in WWII as were his brothers. Like mommawolf, we can trace her family back to just about every battle, skirmish and action back to the Civil war. Her family has been in Florida since the late 1500's--but we always joked that they just liked fighting. With so many of them, they either fought each other or fought together!

My heart goes out to all the family members of our military and my prayers for them and their soldiers and sailors.

My DH is active duty air force national guard. He has had two tours in Iraq in the last two years. He has been in the military for 24 years. My Son-In-Law just returned from his third tour in Iraq. He is back in South Carolina with my Daughter. It is so good that he is back home again. He was gone for 15 months. Let's just say I have been mailing goody boxes to Iraq quite a bit in the last couple of years!

Hi our son is a marine serving in Irag as we speak. I pray for all our men and women serving our country. I just wonder if we used financial restraints if that would help this situation. What do I know I am only a mother.

Thank you for posting the helmet liners link N@N. It is amazing how packages help. The letters too. David, is so depressed right now and so I started sending him mail again, regularly like I used to when he was in Boot Camp and MCT. Even though we can talk regularly, on the phone, it is amazing that letters are such a pick me up.

My family fled Rhodesia to South Africa, in the 1970's, then when I was 18 I came to the States, gaining my citizenship in 1990. I am so grateful to be a citizen of this country and for all your service, and the service of your friends and family, because we would not have the great blessings we have, if it were not for all the wars that have been fought and all the lives that have been given.

Sometimes it is frustrating, especially when you follow some of the political stuff, but if we could all just see how much we have. One of the things I love about this forum is that Farmgirls get it.
