I know this is a delicate subject but how do you know an attorney is giving you the best advice and not just trying to drum up business?? We checked about some business advice and I really had some bells go off in my head.

How do I check??

see if you can get a free consulte from an other lawyer, and compare. Otherwise , just try researching on the internet.

Always trust your instincts - if you don't think it's right, it probably isn't.

I work in the legal field and if a lawyer's advice is making warning bells go off trust your instinct and seek another consultation with another firm.

In Canada each Province has a Law Society and they have a lawyer referral line which simply helps you find a lawyer practicing in the area of law you need. There should be something similar in your state (Bar Association maybe), just explain what type of advice that you need and they should be able to give you the names of three or four lawyers who practice that area of law.

Good luck.

I agree with Sheri - if something doesn't sound right (or smell right) then usually something's up. Try and find out how many other cases he/she has worked on that involve the same issue - what were the results of the other cases? if it involves a specific law/statute/ordinance, find out exactly what the law is...the internet should be able to help you on that issue....if its a civil type issue, find out more info like length of time to resolution, cost, level of involvement required (depos? testimony? research? documentation?) is it more likely than not that something is/is not going to happen? specific litigation strategy? anticipated costs? chance for success? (just trying to give you some things to think about) fee schedule? anticipated recovery (if applicable).....ask questions, questions, questions.....you'll not be able to make intelligent decision if you don't.....good luck!
