I don't know how often this is happening around the country, but...my daughter gave me a visa giftcard for Christmas, I went to use it on- line today and it was empty/used up/depleted already . Called the 800# and was told they have had this problem for over a year now, people get the #s off the cards still in the store, keep checking on-line til its been activated (scanned at the store when you purchase it activates it), then they use them up, and you have no recourse . As it says on back of card, it stolen or lost, oh well, tuff! Pretty bad when you give a gift, and its worthless .

That is just awful. It has to be some demented people that come up with things like that!
Sorry you gotta deal with the lousy boughts of gift card fraud :(

I am so sorry Teresa! I have heard of this and its been a couple of years ago atleast. There was a detailed news story on it and it seems to me that the stores that offer the gift cards know this goes on and should keep them in a secure place so the numbers cannot be copied. It's a real problem and I know the credit card companies and stores would fix it if it were costing them money.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

On the news piece that I saw , they said to never buy a gift card that was on a rack in the open that someone could have access to the numbers to. This last Christmas I saw thousands right by the check out stands and anyone could pick them us and copy the numbers and put them back. Its a shame that we can't trust anything anymore.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Awwwww...Teresa, so sorry to hear of this. I've not heard of this happening before. If you can't trust the employees, who can you trust?/! So sad!

I have noticed at K-Mart they have cards for lots of different stores. I had never thought of people doing something like that, either. There are so many crooked people mooching off honest people anymore. It's just pitiful. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I didn't give any gift cards this year.
Also my DD has put money on those Walmart Visa cards to pay her car payment with. They charge so much money every time it's used. So if she puts $100. on the card, she might actually get to use $85. Now that's a ripp off. So many people don't have checking accounts and the have to use these cards. It's not right. And the pre paid phone cards are the same way. I'm done now.

That is awful, I purchased $500. worth of Sunoco gas gift tickets and thank God they were all good. I just hate it when people are robbed. I'm sure that when God sent us Jesus to die on the cross, he wasn't expecting this outcome. How sad.

Wow, did not ever hear about this til today, I just wanna slap someone. I have warned everyone I know now, this is just to much. My poor daughter was so upset, (she got one for me so I can use it to buy goodies off-line for my quilting or jewelry making) cause she gave several of these cards out to people that are impossible to buy for, when she gets home, she's gonna call everyone and have them check their cards and she hopes no one else is in my boat.
