Happy New Year everyone! My 2010 Farmgoal is to go "greener".
I also hope to do more renovation on the old farmhouse & build more
raised gardens. I also have other things on the list, but if I can accomplish those I will be happy.

I also have this posted on A Farm of Your Own - but would love to see more answers.

My goals are to get 4 13x13 raised besds done and planted, fill in my perrenial border, and put in a few extra horse paddocks so I can rotate the horses...also, neuter two more cats that dont belong to me but drive me crazy...and not shoot my neighbors.. :)

My biggest and most expensive goal is to have a water well drilled and have a hand pump on it......you know, the kind the pioneers had.

See, what happens is we lose electricity around here a lot.....trees are frequently falling on lines. When we lose electricity we lose our water well pump. We're pretty good about surviving in all other areas except water. Hurricane Ike was a big test for us.....out of power for over a week, grocery stores closed because they were out of food, driving 2 hours away to get gas for generators, and toting water buckets from a neighbor's pool to water all the animals ( I know...not great water but it was all I had) and flush toilets. So, having a hand pumped well will add much comfort and convenience for our survival times. I'm having it placed between the house and the animal pasture. That way it's right in the middle of all the activity.

Note: our canned goods, dried goods, chickens, eggs, etc..... supported us while food was not available at the stores!

Blessings
Catherine

Great goals, ladies! I had a very busy year last year, two family weddings, one my daughter's, a new grandbaby, a grand daughter's graduation and a trip to Africa. My only goal this year is to relax and enjoy the bounty!!! I want to do the gardening, the weeding, just hanging out in the yard or sewing room. I just want to get back to a simple life! lol

I want to be organized enough going into the year that I can stay on top of things. To that end I am using January to clean/organize the house - sort of a trick with new stuff from Christmas and moving my grandparents. It seems like every year I start the garden season with grand intentions which last till mid-July when I get overwhelmed with work/family/you-name-it - and once I let things go a little it is a downhill slide till Christmas when I end up buying lots of stuff because I didn't make it last summer.....sigh.

I am also setting a goal to make something, no matter how small, for everyone's birthday. This week I am making marmalade for my grandpa's birthday present - he loves marmalade.
That about covers it - just really getting it together so I can live the life I want to rather than the one where I am taking care of "the stuff" in my life.

Karen-

Sounds like you deserve a year off to just hang out and enjoy your garden, yard, and sewing room!!

My goals for this coming year are...

Build an outhouse on our other property (I'm hoping to build one out of field stone using the same method of stone building as Scott and Helen Nearing of "The Good Life") This will allow me to spend more time on this property and perhaps help us "set up camp" here more often. Next will be water....could be tricky.

Move a raised bed to a new spot and put in a slate walkway to my Vintage Camper's new spot so that I can use it as my "secret" get away this summer.

Put in 6 Christmas trees and a pussy willow.

Build a supporting wall for the auxillary garden my husband helped me build on a side hill behind our house.

If I get that all done, I will be a happy, happy farmgirl!!!
