Today, I had to get back to baking bread after a long hiatus (holidays and had lots of loaves in the freezer to use). I discovered I had a box of milled flax seed I hadn't tried, so I wanted to see how much to include to bread. Went to the Hodgeson's Mill website, but all I could find was a recipe for the bread machine (which I have given up on).
I know bread machine recipes can vary from regular bread recipes, so I didn't want to chance bad loaves.... How much would you ladies recommend putting in a regular white loaf recipe? and wheat?
I'm new to flax, but am excited to try it out! if you are putting it in everyday food, how much would you put in? such as cereal, breakfast, hamburgers, etc.?

I put flax seed in my granola recipe...It's wonderful and we love it! I put a quarter cup in my recipe, but it's a large batch. I've tried many many recipes, and finally settled on this one that I've modified some!
Hannah's Granola

• 6 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (I used: five cups rolled oats, one cup wheat germ, ¼ cup flax seed)
• 1 cup sliced almonds
• 1 cup unsweetened desiccated coconut (I thought it need more: 2 cups)
• 2/3 cup hulled green pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds (I used sunflower seeds)
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter (I used salted)
• 12 tablespoons honey (3/4 cup honey, ¼ cup molasses, ¼ cup brown sugar, 2 tsp almond extract))
• 2 cup mixed dried fruits such as raisins, cherries, and apricots (Dustin doesn’t care for dried fruit in his granola (crazy, I know) so, I didn’t add any, I’ll just add it to my bowl when I eat it! Traverse City cherries, here I come…!)

Preparation
Preheat oven to 325°F.
In a large bowl stir together oats, almonds, coconut, pumpkin or sunflower seeds, and salt (and wheat germ and flax seed). In a small saucepan melt butter with honey over low heat, stirring. (take off heat and add almond extract to melted mixture) Pour butter mixture over oat mixture and stir until combined well.
In 2 large jelly-roll pans spread granola evenly and bake in middle of oven, stirring halfway through baking, until golden brown, about 15 minutes (maybe I layered mine to thick in the pan, but I ended up baking it for closer to 25 minutes). Cool granola in pan on a rack and stir in dried fruits. Granola may be kept in an airtight container at cool room temperature 2 weeks.

I also put it in our Oatmeal. Here is my recipe for Oatmeal:

* 2-1/4 cups water
* dash salt
* 1 cup regular rolled oats
* 1/2 tsp cinnamon
* 1/4 cup dried cranberries or dried cherries
* 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
* 1 TBS flaxseeds

I too would love to start adding it to my homemade bread...any recipes would be awesome!!!

I put milled flax seed in all the bread I bake...roughly 2 tbsp per loaf. You may want to try just 1 tbsp until you discover just what the, ummm, cleaning out effects are like! :)

I thought I would refer you to the All Recipe website that has several recipes using flax and sunflower seeds. Read the numerous comments after the recipe. The first says she does not use the machine as suggested, so see what you think.
