A little boy I've known a little more than a year died on December 20, 2009. He was 8 years old and lived with leukemia for 6 years. His journey was very different than Aria's despite the fact that they share same disease. His journey represents how horribly bad this disease can become even when treatment seems to go well..It is profoundly humbling to witness this family's path...

I feel compelled to go to his funeral and honor his life that has faded to memory for those who remain. I don't know if my intentions are pure..I will be contemplating that for the 3 hours it's going to require me to get to his ceremony..There's a selfish part of me that is completely beside myself that I get to have 6 hours of driving by myself! It has been years and years since I've had that kind of uninterrupted time. This is what I mean by my intentions not being entirely pure!! ugh...Regardless, I have a strong sense of needing/wanting to be there and so I go.

It became very clear to me yesterday when I was ironing. I have to admit here that I was ironing a bag of scraps that I'm FINALLY cutting into 2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch and 5 inch squares. It's going to take me weeks to finish but I'm not putting it off ANY longer! Anway, I was ironing away when all of a sudden I heard as clear as a bell the words of Kahlil Gibran ( a great Iranian spiritual teacher/poet who lived in the late 1800's)
"To be closer to God, be closer to people"

I go to be with those people forever affected by Parker's life...myself included...

Peace be with each of you today....another 24 hours of miraculous Life. ~julia

Julia:
My prayers will be with you today. God Bless. I do believe your intentions are pure and good.

Wow, Julia. I think I needed to see this. I have some of Gibran's books. Haven't read them in years, though. That is something I need to do. Get closer to people so I can be closer to God. After all, aren't we supposed to be just like Him?

As far as pure intentions, you are so totally right in going, for them and for yourself. That 6 hour drive is about the best thing you can do for you. And for that family, too. Then also for your family. There is nothing wrong with spending time alone. You need that. So go and have yourself some good soul searching quiet time. Then you can be the person you need to be for the people that come across your path.

Hugs, Kris

Julia, my friend, you are SO hard on yourself. You are going for the right reasons and I know your presence alone will bring comfort to Parker's family. Long drives alone are healthy for me, I know this one will be for you too. Sending postivie energy and strength your way!

You are all so dear!!

Kelly, I'll be thinking about your comment. "You are so hard on yourself." That is probably very true....especially in terms of the very biased version I'm giving you all right now. It's simply where I'm at. Trust me, I'm VERY good to myself too...like spoil myself rotten, no one has the right to have it as good I do good!! Seriously. I'll be thinking of posting some of those sugary sweet taking good care of myself moments just to prove it to you!!!

I think I needed a little extra validation about taking the time and using it for me is a GOOD thing.. I know it is but it's been helpful to hear it from you too.

I'm going through CDs right now so I can jam away!!

Kris, I very much appreciated your comment about "aren't we supposed to be just like Him?" I've been contemplating that a lot lately...the many faces of God...the seeing the face of God in every human being, in every living thing...God is infinite, beyond our comprehension though we try define the Divine. I go today to see the Miracle and Mystery of divinity in Life while facing a death. I am deeply honored to be able to go....stay tuned...that is, if you want to know!!! ~julia

PS; I know I write a lot about spiritual matters...Sometimes I have to remind myself that this topic is also a part of what it means to be a Farmgirl. However, I do a lot of other farm-girlie things..you know like decorating porta-potties!!! Just keeping it real...

Julia, you are one hell of a lady, and going to this childs funneral just proves that, and wanting some alone time, OMG, you more than deserve that and lots more. Caring for someone ill for as long as you have been doing takes a special person to begin with ( and believe you me, GOD has a special place beside him, when your time comes), You are in my heart everyday, and don't you ever forget that my friend.
