you know you are doing something that is helping someone in need?
I am just overjoyed this morning ,even with the rain. Why you ask, well I have the van loaded down with bags of blankets, clothes, beanies, gloves and shoes all heading to Atlanta to a homeless shelter. Pastor 7 is in charge of this shelter and he also goes out on the streets and hands meals and needed items to those under the bridges. My heart is so happy because I am going to be a part of helping keep someone warm this season. You can check out his website at http://www.7bridgestorecovery.org/home_page.html. Hope each of you have a great Friday! Blessings,Karen

Karen,

Thank you for posting! Many of us can look around our homes and find something ( even one or two things) to give to help meet the needs of others, especially with such harsh winter weather bearing down on everyone. This time of year can be a such a time of excess - and yet to simply give of what you have is the most meaningful act of love toward our fellow human family. You never know who may really need and appreciate that warm sweater, coat, pair of socks, scarf, pillow or blanket that is just taking up room in a closet, and not being worn or used.

It is good to also take time to think about how good it feels to receive such help too, for things often come back around and we'd never expect to be on the needful, receiving end of another's love and kindness.

My family often has an excess of jeans that are either outgrown or just aren't a good fit anymore & these too are simple, but good gifts to pass forward in a care bag for a shelter.

My heart is very happy today. Last week or so we had a very, very cold stretch here. It was 4 degrees or so, less than that with the wind chill. I saw a Mom walking to school to pick up her kids in just a hooded sweat shirt. I know the family (not well). I work on the playground at school - last year I "turned in" 2 of her boys for coats to the social worker. The zippers weren't working on 1 the other was ripped. I just alerted the Social worker to a need. The boys received. So, now this is the first time I see the Mom. I asked my area Mom's on facebook to help me out.

Yesterday, I delivered an almost brand new (worn 2 or 3 times) down coat to the social worker for the Mom! Donated by another Mom in our community.

Funny thing - when I went in to the social workers office she told me that the mom was already on her way in! Someone else had donated a coat for a mom they saw on the playground without one. So, we have an extra one available. I asked her if she would bless someone else where she sees the need.

We have people in our own community in need. I used the social worker in this case because - I don't know the woman and I don't want to embarrass her.

I just pray that it was received well.

Deb, thats great! There are so many people that have lost jobs or have had severe cutbacks that they just cant buy clothes for trying to keep their families feed. It is a sad time for so many. I know that that particular lady and whom ever gets the other coat will be so greatful. Merry Christmas to you! Blessings,Karen

I do hope so. I didn't want to offend.

I know that as Mom's we take care of the kids first. Sometimes Mom's need to look out for other Mom's. It's also a reminder to me that when I need help, to ask for it. Often times in the most smallest of things I tend to go it alone. I have friends around me who would come along side me. This has proven it.

Don't be afraid to ask.

What a wonderful thing you are doing Deb!

Earlier this month I had a brand new coat shell (the outer coat part to a two piece set) and my older coat stolen out of my car. At first I was pretty put out since I had just bought it less than a week before and now I was worse off than before I bought the new coat (Missing the old down coat). But then I realized that someone must have needed the coach much more than I did.

So true Alee, you know you are ao right they must have needed to stay warm. I hope you were able to get you a warm one too though. I sure wish people didnt have so much pride that they would ask for things, I am speaking for myself included. I know if someone told me they didnt have a coat or knew someone who didnt I would be willing to give them one. Blessings, Karen

Since my return from Africa I have been working on a way to give to one of the villages I visited when I was in Zambia. I am collecting fabric to make some smaller children some quilts and blankets. I was given some fabric panel samples at a fabric store so I have those to start with. It just broke my heart to see small children with no toys and/or blankets. A friend even gave me some money for the shipping. It does my heart good to try and do something.
