Ya'll have got to go see this blog. I am hooked on her blog. This recipe looks so simple and good. It's //suzannemcminn.com/blog/.
I hope that works. If not it's called Chickens in the Road. She had an Italian Cream Cake recipe on there the other day. I think I'b probably just lay down and die if I ate a piece of that. Because I could not stop at just one peice. So it would probably kill me for sure. But ya'll need to check it out.

Well Kristin.... hubby just came home with 6 pounds of butter, and I have a brand new bag of brown sugar, guess what I'm going to go do now, lol???!!!!!
Thanks for the link!
PS And I'm going to have to make the Italian Cream Cake for my dad when he comes up north next week. He's 100% italian, and I'll be he hasn't had that in years! I hope he'll share with me... I'll let you know how it turns out!

Brenda, I need the kind of husband that brings home six pounds of butter! That's my kind of eating. :-) Boy, the candy sounds good - I love brown sugar.

Brenda, I go to Aldi's here and buy several pounds of butter. It was on sale before Thanksgiving for $1.69. I got alot. Have you made it yet? I am going to make some tomorrow. I'll have all 3 grands. I'm also going to get them to help me make some of the twig stars. I wish I had some corn husks. I'd make the corn husk angels, too. But that cake looks way too good.

I love this site too. I feel that getting a daily infusion of Mary Jane and Suzanne is a great way to start a day.

And I do plan to make this candy later today.

Wow! I am going to have to go check her site out! It sounds great! In the next coming months I am going to have a lot of time at work where there won't be anything specific to work on (late night waiting for a call to come in) and we are allowed to work on personal projects during between call times. So I am thinking I am going to want to have a stockpile of ideas waiting for me! Maybe I can find an idea, gather the ideas and then put each idea in a bag so I can just pull a bag out, work on the project until it's done and not have to worry about if I have all the stuff :D

What a cute blog! Thanks for the link!

That Italian Cream Cake looks divine. I buy butter whenever it goes on sale, so I have a stockpile in my fridge...

Alee, great idea. I am going to make the potpouri when I get a few more of the things I'll need. We tried to make the twig stars but they just don't look right for some reason. But the candy is good. I took some of the candied pecans from walkinwalkoutcattle's blog and put a piece in some of them and rolled them up. Kansas did the twisting of the paper. I have saved all my butter wrappers so I used them. I'd like to try the spoons next. I just need spoons now. I have a list going of things I need.

I was wondering why MJ doean't have a blog, too. And then I realized she has a whole magazine. And the great newsletter, too. But I really love Suzanne's blog and all her cute ideas.

Has anyone made the candy yet? I put mine out in the laundry room to cool. It was still alittle soft but I went ahead and did most of it. I wanted to see if it would harden up a little more before I do the rest. It is good.

hey Kristin - I made the candy on saturday. They never turned hard. I don't know whether or not I cooked it long enough or what I may have done wrong. I had a few left this morning and they were still soft even from the fridge. The flavor was great tho! My DH covered squares of the candy with peanuts and rolled them up - he says they tasted like payday candybars.

I know. I left mine out on the back porch because when I brought them in they'd get soft again. But now they are all gone and it doesn't matter! I am going to make more though. And I'm going to make some with the plastic spoons for coffee and hot chocolate. yumm! But I don't know what happened. Have you gone over to the forum? There is a thread going on now about the candy. Maybe it didn't cook long enough or didn't get hot enough. But it's still good.

I looked through it on Sat., but I'm going to check again right now! I don't care either, I'm going to make some more tomorrow! :-)

Forgot to say thank you for suggesting this site. My "add to favs" button was overworked last night!

I made the candy too. Twice. It didn't turn out either time, but it works great to add into a cup of coffee! I also made the twig stars...and gave some as gifts! I didn't like the hot glue peeking out, so I wrapped all of the points with raffia! Thanks for sharing the website...it is a new favorite!

I made the candy three times. The first time was a total flop. I went back and read that you add the sugar a little bit at a time. Not dump the whole cup in at once, which is what I did. I think there is a balance to cook it hot enough to make and not too hot to burn. You want to go to the highest temp and not over into the burn. I have an electric stove and I had to let it get going and cooking in an fairly active bubbly state and then lift it off the burner or it would have burned. I made the version she shows and one mentioned in the followup posts where they pour it over graham crackers and they sprinkle with chocolate. YUM YUM. It sure is good.

Lavonne,
did yours stay soft? or did they harden up - if so, how long did it take?

Thanks
Tiffany

The one that I made on it's own did get very hard. The others were a little soft. I think the hotter temp and the longer cook time the candy harder. But it burns easy too.

Could it be the weather, too? I am going to make some more today and see. It's really cold this morning but should warm up a bit this afternoon. I am also going to make some with plastic spoons for coffee.

You know, I put some of the cracker candy in a covered cake carrier and it stayed softer but the candy I made by itself I put in a Mason Jar and had the lid on it and it stayed very hard. Maybe it is being in more airtight storage that made the difference.

I just made more candy and it's hard as a rock now. It looked really different from the first batch I made last week. It was thicker. So I put it in a smaller pan and stuck it out on the back porch to cool and forgot about it. When I went to check it it was so hard. So I guess I'll just crack it up and we'll have it like that. It's very good, though. Not grainy like the first time. I'm going to make more and use the plasric spoons this time.

It's a beautiful day today. Nice and sunny and rather warm. That might be why it set up so fast.
