If you are interested in particapating in this effort please let me know. I plan to send 25 pillowcases at a time.
If you go to the ConKerr Cancer web site you will find two patterns for pillow cases. http://www.conkerrcancer.org/index.html Along with more information on there organization.

Both patterns call for
1 each: 10 ˝” X 40 ˝” strip for the boarder
1 each: 26 ˝” X 40 ˝” for the main pillow fabric.
I like to add some piping.
1 each) 1 ľ” X 40 ˝” accent fabric. ( Fold and press on the 40 ˝”.)

Here is my tutorial on how to make the “Hot Dog Pillowcase”. It really is easy. I bet you will find yourself using this technique on other projects.

With right sides together, pin together along the 40 ˝” edge your boarder and main fabric.

Place the pressed piping fabric strip between the main and boarder fabric. Pin all three together at raw edge. (Or just skip this part for no piping)

Gently turn you pined fabric over. Here is where the “Hot Dog” starts.

Fold the main fabric down until it is no bigger then 2 inches. Be carful to keep at least 1 inch away from pinned edge.

Now fold the boarder fabric over your rolled main fabric. Carefully remove one pin at a time and secure the boarder fabric.

You now have a nice “Hot Dog”

With a quarter inch seam allowance, sew along pinned edge. (Don’t sew over your pins. That is a sure way of breaking a needle or jamming your bobbin case.)

Ready, you can now gently pull the main fabric out of the “roll”.
Ta Da! Doesn’t that look nice?

So give it a press to flatten your hidden seams.

With wrong sides together, once again pin your fabric together. (I am a big pin-er. I don’t want to take a chance of the seams not lining up.)

With a scant quarter in seam allowance, sew the two pinned sides. (Again, don’t sew over your pins.)

With all the fooling we have done with our fabric, you may have a few shaggy threads. Take a moment to trim all these threads and don’t forget to snip your corner because you are now going to turn your pillow case inside out!

I like to press my seams now to make them nice and flat.

Back to the sewing machine….Sew a healthy 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch seam. What you are doing is incasing those raw edges.

Ok?? Now you are done!!

Turn your pillow case right sides out.
Finished!!! That was easy.

And Now there are three!!

If you are going to send this direct to the hospital yourself, be sure to rewash the case. But, if you are sending it to me, I will rewash all of them before I send them in.

Please post your photos so we all can see your pillowcase.

A warm thank you to Linda "yarnmmama" for staring this idea.

Children are all very special. If a colorful pillowcase brings a smile to their faces....lets all make one or two.

Thank you Debbie!
If you are going to make any and want to send them to me so I can send them all together, I will wash, iron and fold them before I send them.
Just remember to prewash all your fabric before making your pillow case.
Oh, and please, post a photo here if you can.

I have a few more made. I will try a post a photo tomorrow or Thursday.
Some one came up with the idea of donating some fabric. If anyone has some and would like to mail it to me, that would be great.
Also, when you do mail me your finished case, please enclose a little note with your name, city and state. I could even put a line or two about yourself. I want to attached them to the cases when I send them in.
Thanks ladies. And a big thank you to Linda for bring this idea to my attention. When your health is better I hope you can join in to.

I received 5 pillow cases from Debbie. Thank you very much.
They are perfect. I will try and post a photo tonight.
My husband is taking an online coarse and I don't always have use of the computer.
But I will post a photo before this weekend.

Kathy- Could you put a post in the barter section stating that you are looking for fabric donations for the pillowcases? I bet there would be at least a few who would do it!
Can't wait to see more photos!
