I have been getting about a message a day w/ regad to our friend.

Her cancer hasn't responded to the chemo and she doesn't was to continue. It's spreading in fact. Lungs and liver are the most affected. Same for the area where they removed the one kidney. a mass has returend there too and is growing.

So she opted to go on pain meds and now hospice has been called in.

She is so doped up.

So sad

I hate to admit it, but I have a sneaking suspiciion where we may have to go over Christmas. And this isn't how I want to go back to Ohio,.

Her husband's name is Dave and her 2 kids are Chris and Joe

Thanks for remembering this family

we have been lifelong friends and this is breaking a,l our hearts

Thanks Lisa

I sure do wish it could be under happier circumstances.

We are all taking it day by day.

So sorry, Anna...it sounds as though she is at least, comfortable, though I know it's very difficult for everyone.

Thinking of all this tough season.

Got messages while my folks were visiting a few hours ago.
As of this a.m. Dona wasn't able to take anything by mouth at all, including pain meds. Looking to hook her up to a patch.

Cancer has spread into her brain

Hospice is looking at 72 hour longevity

Anna, I am so sad for your friend and for all who love her. I do hope the end is peaceful for her and all of you at least have the knowledge there is no more suffering for her. I am thinking fo you.

Sometime around the 2:00 this afternoon, Dona passed.

She had been sleeping and was very heavily sedated. Her breathing had just stopped.......very peacful.

Best way to go but still hard to accept.

No plans firmed up yet, but we'll be making a trip to Ohio by Thursday I have a feeling.

An answer to prayer in that she went quickly and didn't linger.

Thank you ladies.

All of us who wore our LIVESTRONG wristbands will string them together with a yellow ribbon to be placed on her casket

News we received yesterday afternoon, was cancer had spread to Dona's brain and the main artery leading to her heart.

WOW is all I can say

In the span of less than 6 months this horrid disease took possession of her body.

Ohhhh Anna, I am so deeply sorry for your loss and the loved ones around you. I lost my DH just a short 3 wks. ago to lung cancer, it had also gone to his brain. He was diagnosed mid April and lived 7 mos. He passed peacefully here at our home, and you can be so very thankful that Dona passed quietly and peacefully also. My prayers are with you!!

Anna--I am so sorry about the loss of your friend. I have lost cousins to cancer and three people I know died this year alone from it. I once visited a co-worker who was dying of cancer and though they told me she couldn't hear me, I believe she did. I told her she was like a butterfly about to emerge from its cocoon. she died the next day and her family never came to visit her when she was dying. I'm sure your friend knew that you were praying for her and felt it. And she went peacefully and is now trying out her butterfly wings. I hope this doesn't sound too sentimental, but sometimes it's a good thing to be set free from the sufferings of this world. (((Hugs)))

Thanks so much for the comfort and prayers ladies.

I'm sorry and saddened for each of your losses too.

And yes, Dona is an a way better place...free from suffering and soaring on butterfly wings.........

And a way my mom once put it when brother and i were kids.....we are like a banana. When we die, the peel is what's left behind, but the banana (our soul) lives on in a better place

May each of you also find peace and comfort

I am so sorry for your loss. Dona is indeed in a better place, no pain for her. My sister had cancer, and it's such a sad thing to see how destroying it can be. I will keep you in my prayers. Marly

So we made a 24 hour whirlwind trip to Ohio Thursday/Friday.
Couldn't make it to the funeral...that was Wednesday and we found out too late.

So we met up with Dave the widower that night and had a very nice dinner with him and some friends of old.

He seemed to be holding it together alright, the roughest part was when the casket was taken away from the church. There wasn't a burial, so we assume Dona will be creamated.

Hard to to go back to an empty house all the time.

We also had breakfast the next day with a few more friends and Dave too.

Wasn't able to take my Livestrong wristband off. I would have cried even harder.

So when the dust has settled a bit, I'll send a nice card from hubby and me and enclose it then.

Apparently our family was well represented via old stories and various photos. People understood we wern't able to make it.

At one point in a conversation, we heard Dave say that his wife had apparently been suffering silently for at least 6 years. Piecing it all together with bouts of feeling run down and tired all converge to point to the events that happened this year.

Last summer when we were alltogether in Wyoming, we recall how tired Dona was and how she had to take naps ....even hearing her speak this past summer when we were up in July.

So very scary indeed!!

I think next time we'll try and visit under way better circumstances.

Please continue to keep Dave in your prayers. It's going to be a sad Christmas

Thanks so much!

So good that you could make it to Ohio, even if not for the funeral. Dave will appreciate that you were there to support him, sometimes that moral support means so very much. This will help you also, to heal. My heart goes out to you~~~take good care!!

Anna, I am sorry for your loss. Cancer has taken a lot of my friends and relatives over the years, my dad in sept. & gramma Rose a few days ago. I know you will miss her but I know she is laughing again pain-free and happy just like we will all be doing someday.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.
