Do any of you have a trampoline? Was it worth the money? How long did your children enjoy it?
Oh yeah, and did you enjoy it? Did you jump on it or sleep on it??

When my girls grew up, our backyard joined several of the neighbors and one of them bought a trampoline.
On the POSITIVE side, we always knew where all the kiddos were playing and they did have a lot of fun. There were many hours spent on it by neighborhood children.
On the NEGATIVE side (you knew that was coming!)...there were MANY injuries despite it being relatively well supervised. A broken toe, broken arms, lots of bumped heads and split lips, and my own daughter buckle-fractured her leg. She spent 9 months in an Ilizarov frame as a result of it. One night while she was in hospital, all four beds in one room were occupied by trampoline injuries. Cass' ortho doc said next to monkey bars, they keep them in business.
I don't know about where you live, but here, trampolines fall under the same classification as swimming pools...ie. they must be enclosed in a 6' fence. That might be something to look into.
I apologize for being so negative, but having lived so close to one and seen what happens, I would never ever buy one.

I bought one from Toy's are us last year for my granddaughter's birthday. There are only 3 of them that play on it and not too much. They all love it. We have not had an injury, thank the Lord. They can be quite dangerous for sure. There are a bunch of kids up the road that had one. They were constantly on it. It finally fell apart. Poor guys. I'd love to get them another one. They had a ball on it. Every time I rode by they were all on it. When my kids were younger we had one, too. They never got hurt either. They get on this one now. And they are grown.

Thank you Diane and Kristin! I really hadn't thought much about how dangerous they can be. I ALWAYS wanted one as a child so when my daughter mentioned it I thought "Yippee!" without thinking much about it.

We have had several. We use them so much we wear them out. My dd is 17 and still plays on it. I sleep on it in the sun. As with anything I suppose you have to enforce rules and use common sense. Yes, they can be dangerous, but we limit jumpers to 3, no acrobatics unless you pay for it and don't come crying to me unless there's blood! lol...so far, so good!

I never had one because of our weird sloping yard, but I spent almost everyday at the neighbor's trampoline when I was a child. We were both gymnasts, so we were used to being on one, and probably for that reason, too, we were a little more "ambitious" with our tricks, but we still never got hurt. Fell off, got bounced off, but nary an injury :)

Call your local ER and ask their opinion, lol. They will tell you it helps keep them in business. Back many, many moons ago, when i was teen, a neighbor bought one for their kids, 2 weeks later it was being destroyed, because their daughter was trying to do a flip, unsupervised by adults, after being goaded into it, she crashed and broke her neck and was instantly paralized from the neck down. I think Pediatric docters warn every year about the dangers of trampolines, and I truely believe them to be warrented.

I knew a girl that got a radial fracture of her upper arm from a trampoline and several that broke legs/ankles. I had a friend that had one and played on it a bit and hurt myself minimally a couple of times. I probably wouldn't get one just because Nora is completely fearless and she would be the one with the broken neck! ;) But that isn't to say that a trampoline can't be tons of fun. I guess there would have to be some pretty strict ground and one of those safety cages?

My son has had one for several yrs and he and his brother have always loved it, and yes mom and dad both love to jump too. Plus if the weather is nice we like to star watch from it! Thank the good Lord we have never had any boo-boos! Blessings,Karen

Our neighbor has one and we loved watching all 3 kids jumping & playing on it. Sometimes they would have a picnic under it. My 80 yr mom even jumped on it.

| We've had one for about 9 years. No major accidents, but several close calls. The kind of close calls where your child is no longer ON the trampoline but UNDER it and your heart jumps out of your chest and you stop breathing because you just know that this is it! I wanted one growing up, but never got one. It's very good exercise. I once had a severe back ache that would not go away and I jumped on it one afternoon and had no more pain. It's very good for your body cells too. Just imagine, each jump and every cell in your body is getting a workout too! A mini-tramp is good for that too. |

| We've had one for years about 12 years. No acccidents but just us two grown ups on it most of the time. Used it for a lot of star gazing and sometimes just to sleep on under the stars but off the ground. For the last two years it's been used as a chicken tractor for our meat birds and baby chicks. We just wrapped it in 2"x4"x48" fencing and hooked food and water pans to the sides and stuck a couple of dowel roads thru it for roosting on and TADA! you've got a chicken tractor that is is easy to manuever,(thanks to the wheels) and overhead protection from the sun and the hawks and hail if you have it. Plus your lawn get's mowed and you have lot's of wonderful little circle patterns of grass that never grew so good before. ;) |

We never had one, but my cousins did & we used to love jumping on it. Well, my cousins & my siblings did. I hated it with a passion! We supposedly had "rules" but they weren't really enforced. We were old enough to know better - or so you'd think. They came up with ideas for the tramp like you wouldn't believe - dish soap, water sprinkler, baby oil....Anyways, after I got bounced off one too many times & landed on my neck/back, I quit going on them for a long time. My sister got one for my nephew who is now 6, and I'll go on it with him, but nobody else. I don't mind the mini ones, but I doubt I'll ever own a (big) trampoline of my own. Too many bad memories for me!

Several years ago we had neighbors who had one. My oldest (Robert) and youngest (John) were on it at the same time (they allowed 2 at a time) jumping and having fun until...Robert jumped a little to hard sending John up. Robert went down and John came down face first on the back of Robert's head. John ended up with a severe concussion and a broken face. Yes, a broken face, breaking the orbital rim around his eye. Once I realized how bad it was I took him to the hospital. Because of the concussion, he was not allowed to run, jump, play, or do anything but sit and quietly play, watch videos, read, etc. for 4 weeks. Talk about a rough 4 weeks for a boy! If John had fallen again and hit his head within that 4 weeks time, the doctor said we'd be looking at some brain damage; that is how bad the concussion was.
Anyway, at the hospital, the initial nurse told me that trampoline accidents are the biggest reason kids come into the ER. Then when the doctor came in and asked us to tell him what happened, he looked at me and said that trampolines are dangerous under the best of circumstances and that I would not believe the volume of kids that come into the ER due to them.
I know there are many who have never had any incident with trampolines, but after our experience and the comments made to me at the ER, I would not have one or let my kids play on one again. I know this is really negative, but I wanted to share.

We had one for about 10 years while the kids were growing up. Great fun! One summer my 2 youngest had the idea of putting water balloons on it, then jumping! Of course our golden retriever thought that was the best!
One year I realized after seeing some pictures that my son had taken, that he, and his 3 cousins were jumping off our shed roof onto the trampoline. I put a stop to that really quick!
No injuries over the years, thank you Lord, but now that my daughter has one for her kids, she has strict rules. They are going to get one of the nets that goes all around the outside before using it again in the spring.
I used to enjoy ours too, jumping, laying in the sun, watching stars at night.
I agree that they can be fun, but can also be a danger.
As so many of you have said, strict supervision is a must.
I am more cautious now, if I had little ones, I wouldn't buy one.

We have had a trampoline for about 3 years now and my son uses it all the time. He was in it just yesterday with his friends. The only thing is that I am very careful about who I let use the trampoline with. It has to be someone whose parents I know and they have given their consent. We have a net around ours and there are rules that have to be followed. I have made kids sit out when they do not obey the rules.
