One of our farmgirl's daughter who is only 28, has breast cancer, stage 3, and our chapter is making items her mom can sell at a craft bazaar to earn money for her daughters chemo treatments. She has no insurance and does not qualify for medicare, so anything we can make that sells well at a bazaar will be of help.

I need some easy to make great sellers so I'm asking all you farmgirls out there for ideas.
Please say a prayer for this family and thank you.

When my dad's cousin had brest cancer, my mamaw made beaded pins and sold them at our local McDonald's. (Mamaw worked at McD's at the time) But you could do all sorts of things from bake sales. The lady that runs the flea market in town told me that candles are doing really well this year. I think handmade in general is doing pretty well this year.

Let us know what you decide to do Gail. Whatever you decide to make and sell at the Bazaar, maybe you could try to sell a few here on the MJF marketplace as well. I know I would be interested and I'm sure there are other ladies that would be too, especially when it comes to helping out a fellow farmgirl. When is the craft bazaar?

Baked goods are always a hit. They do best at the local farmer's market even. She may want to consider that, especially with the holidays near.

Baked goods are good I agree. You can package two cookies together for a dollar, and they add up fast. Home made bread sells good, and this time of year, knitted hats and maybe even aprons with a holiday theme. I have an angel from one such time, a fund raiser, that was sold for a dollar or two. It is all white with some gold glitter on it. I put it out every Christmas. If people know it is a fund raiser and why, they are more apt to buy.

The bazaar is Dec 4-5. I've made some soy teacup candles and my daughter and I made some pink beeswax lip balms so far. I will probably bake some pecan bars and one of the gals is making cookies. We have also put together some bags of the homemade laundry soap for sale.

I did want to mention that there is a fund at Bank of America set up for Georgeann King Cancer Memorial Fund acct#501009070938 (which is only a memorial acct and is a non-withdrawal acct), if anyone would like to help. Also to Georgeann King Cancer Fund a donation can be sent to: Reno Cancer Foundation c/o Lois Bynum 1155 Mill St. Reno, NV 89502.

I'm so sorry to hear this news! There's a way of making firestarters using a cupcake pan, sawdust,& wax. You use a paper cupcake liner, and when it's done you have little candles that are wonderful for wood burning fireplaces. A neighbor used to make these & give them away as gifts several years ago.

I am appalled that we cannot provide treatment for a woman with cancer in this country. Has she spoken with a social worker? For one thing I would see if you could get a website set up with a paypal fund for her. I hope people would donate a little.

I recently picked up some darling little ribbon and bead book marks that I LOVE...They sold for like $5.75 and of course materials and time couldn't be all that... But, they are my absolute favs...Maybe you could add a poster saying "Proceeds go to help ......"

Gail, I adore you... I swear you have the biggest heart........ Your friends are blessed to have you!

Rene your too sweet, thank you. Her booth is gonna be set up to show that all the proceeds are going to her daughter's chemo fund. Bookmarks are a good idea also. Our next chapter meeting is this coming Sunday and I will bring up all these great ideas. It is something each of us can do that isn't real time consuming so we can get it made before the fourth. I also just read here about baking bread and cakes in a jar. Love the idea as it is something I could do. Now its off to the kitchen to get er' done. love you gals

Yea.... when I saw your title, I so wanted to be a little smarty pants and ask if the ideas had to be bazaar? or if they could just be "weird", but of course I would never say such a thing... LOL glad that you guys found some that you liked.

Is probably too late for this idea, someone mentioned the firestarters....they can also be made in egg cartons (for those of you who don't save them!!), just pour the wax in, some sawdust, dryer lint, or what have you....let the was harden and cut them apart, OR sell as one!! My prayers to the family mentioned.

Just wanted to post how the bazaar went. There were lots of items sold and so many wonderful people who bought items and donated them back. Many bought raffle tickets and lots of the food items. My daughter spoke with another lady, Carrie, who had a booth at the bazaar that sells lotions and such to benefit keeping children in homes. She is the kindest woman and has donated half of a booth she rents at our Keepers Corner where everyone can buy all kinds of things from antiques to homemade things. Here, Julie will set up the things that did'nt sell at the bazaar and all the proceeds from all sales at the booth for the month of December are being donated to Georgann's fund.
Before leaving the bazaar on Sunday, Faith and Carrie went around to all the vendors to speak about Georgann and were given many items of donations for Julie to sell in the booth at the Keepers Corner. My daughter was in tears over the generousity of the people in this small town and so very grateful for Julie. Tomorrow I will go in and help the girls set up the booth area as Wednesday night will be packed with people for their annual discount Christmas sale. This has been a true blessing for this family. I've even been told that Carrie and a friend of hers would like to join our chapter. What a great blessing this has been for all of us.
