For the past 2 weekends we have been inoculating logs with shiitake mushroom spore.Do any of you grow mushrooms if so what kind. this is our second year and so far we have only dine shiitakes. I would love to learn about some other kinds. Here are a couple of pictures of our week end event. This is my nephew waxing the logsThis is my husband drilling holes
Have never done this but John was just asking me about growing Morels, he seen a add in the Mother Earth News magazine. So I will be watching this thread, to learn more!! Where do you get the spore to inoculate the logs with?
I went to a tree day in Seneca, IL , about 5 years ago and they had mushroom innoculating how to. I don't recall alot of details. I did help do some of the drilling, innoculating, and then the waxing. And after that I bought a log for $5. But I don't think I cared for my log well and the wax came out of almost all the holes, or something ate it out - who knows. I did get a few mushrooms, but I don't think it was five dollars worth. I like looking for them out in the wild - my mom taught me the good ones from the not so good ones. But all in all I did find the mushroom logs very interesting and fun to do. Wonder if I still have some of the info on that somewhere (I moved since then). If I find it I'll be back!
