Its a great show showing the public the true nature of a pitbull and how wonderful a family pet they can be. I had the privlage of meeting the women who owns and runs the rescue, Tia a few years back, she is one heck of a Lady! It is also a show that teaches tolerance, stop judgeing books by their covers, i.e., parolees and pitbulls. The guys that work for her are all just out of prison, they did their time, admit they made MAJOR mistakes, but, now they are trying to go on with their lives and give back at the same time. I know "Animal Planet" has gotten alot of flack for this show, and I'm so glad they have chosen to ignor the bad and continue on with Tia and her family. The rescue is not all the far from me, and if I had the time, I would volenteer there in a heartbeat.

I love pit, we owned one and he was the best animal we have had. Its u nfortunate that people teach a dog, to be cruel. Chaihuahuas were taught to fight too, but we carry them around in purses? Weird to me.

I've never saw "Pitbulls & Parolees", but I'll check it out.

Yeah Teresa I think it is a pretty good show. I like pits and as one vet said that there are about 30 different dogs that sorta look like a Pitbull. We have an Amstaff and have had them before. Just big lovable dogs. Sorta a baby huey kind of dog. Sweet and gentle. We live out in the country up near the woods so we have some walkers and such. One lady was so afraid of Bingo she told my daughter that she could never bring her son on the trails because if my dog was out there he might kill the son. Stupid perceptions. (and people). Just as you said--Don't judge a book by it's cover. I guess you can see how ticked when I hear about the stupidity of some people. MB

I wish i had a way to put pics on here, I too have a "pit", actually she is a staff bull terrier, she is 65 lb.s of muscule and extreme goofyness. The biggest danger she is is knocking into you, and bruising shinbones, lol. She loves everyone, human and animal alike, another dog acts aggressive towards her, and she runs, screaming for cover, she is the biggest baby tou've ever met. I really hope Tia's show brings people around to see what great dogs they are and can be, when, with the right parents and siblings.
I don't know how many people know this,,but of the top 5 search and rescue dogs in the country, one is a female pit, a rescue from a shelter. She was trcking a lost 3 yr old, when she walked up on to a golf course. A man playing golf started beating her with his golf club, and actually knocked her out, by the time her handler got to her, she was awake, but bloody and bruised with cracked and broken ribs. Her handler/mom was screaming at this idiot, asking why, she was wearing her S & R vest, and a drag lead. The man said , "she is a pitbull, I thought she would kill me", the dog got her senses back and took off, even thou she was in severe pain, she refused to quit, and she found that little girl, and probally saved her life, Her handler/mom then rushed her to the vet, and she later died from a brain bleed. She was a hero, and the local paper would not print a picture of her, or state her breed in the story, because at the time, this city/state was trying to out law them.

Mary Beth!
Bingo is such a beautiful dog. Teresa, what a sad story. Hopefully the show you mentioned will open the eyes and hearts to people who believe that all pitbulls or big dogs are harmful. Years ago I had a black lab name Ivory. She was so big that people who would visit would not get out of their car. They'd sit their and blow their horns. LOL

Pits and Rotties still make me vervous. But I know there are no bad dogs, just really bad owners.

I'll look up the show and see if Hulu runs it

it is hard to make judgements on amimals for me. I have a boxer and love him like he is one of my sons. My sister has a chailhuahua that is naughty as heck bites everyone who is not family. I love the dog whisperer who swears that pits are great dogs but I also see the pits around here that are very scary. Kids can not even play in there yards. It is a bad situation!!! I think this breed of dog need a lot of love and when they dont get it there can be a lot of problems

Oh yea

And what most people don't realize (myself included 11 years ago) is that a dog froms its impression of its world the first 2-3 months of its life.

This is why socializing it with everyone and everything is so critical
