i know it might be early, it isnt even thanksgiving yet, and well as the omie, i think the greatest gift is that they get to teach my grandchildren, but i do like to adknowledge the great job that teachers do. so i thought we might share our ideas for homemade teacher gifts.
i have two ideas today, and well of course they involve acorns, cause as some of you know i am NUTS for acorn crafts.......
1. felted acorns with sprinkles of glitter. several in a bowl are just tooo pretty. these same acorns can be adapted to be book marks with a beautiful ribbon, and also adapted to be a small ornament. the larger acorn caps can also be made in to ornaments.
i can post pics if necessary,,,but i would also like to hear about crafty gifts that you like to make as well.

Frannie,
You make such beautiful things I just know those book marks would be so cute. Yes we would like to see pictures of the acorns in the bowl.

What great ideas!! I have given homemade soap with a hand knit dish cloth and tied up with raffia and a cute tag, or homemade ornaments, pillows with the class picture on them (that cool photo transfer paper that will put them on fabric) and of course fudge or other homemade candies..especially when the teacher is a man.

thanks for the post, so good to hear from you both. i am LOVING feeling good and getting back on this site.
aunt jenny, i love your idea with the knit dish cloth and homemade soap with the rafia and cute tag. also the pillows with the class picture is very sweet. i have made ornaments for christmas with an antique pic of santa in the middle but an ornament with a pic of the class would be sweet as well.
how have you been feeling, jenny. it seems to me you had a surgery this year.

As a teacher, I SO apprecieate gifts that are made and come from the heart! Maybe not all teachers are like this, but I know a lot of us are. What a great thing to teacher your kids.

How about rescuing a stray tea cup and saucer from a thrift store and filling it with handmade soap or something and tying it up with a beautiful ribbon.

My daughter is a middle school teacher, and one of her favorite gifts was a journel type book that all the kids in her differant periods wrote something to her (one child started this on her own), some of it was sappy sweet, some were funny, and some were comicaly critical of test scores and essey grades. Some drew pictures or just doodles. Either way she absolutly loves it, it is very presious to her. You see it was her first year teaching and she was sooooo very worried about the job she was doing (which of course I told her was silly), and whether or not she was making a differance, I believe she did.

Jam! We always give the teachers jam--by the time the 3rd child comes to their class, they're asking what kinds of jam will they get this year? :)

Books for the classroom library. As a teacher and a Mom, I've been on both sides... Food items, mugs, coffee coupons, and christmas ornaments are sweet and endearing, but a gift for the classroom goes a long way and benefits everyone. Or how about a lovely note and a donation to the local food pantry on your teacher's behalf? (Although, I must admit...a lovely jar of jam is never turned away!) Oh and that journal....way cool.

After more than 20 years...it's that one letter from a student that is in the back of my desk drawer and the box of misc photos that I treasure.

AS a teacher I love homemade gifts. I thought the stray teacup idea and journal idea were great ones. You make lovely things.

i really love homemade gifts too, and really grew up with that concept. i do however wonder about the volume of things that teachers get, and in this day and time, i think the idea of donating a book in honor of the teacher to the library is a wonderful idea.
i love to make journals as well, and have started some this past week.
