Hi all! I got a small pressure cooker (Mirro, I think) from someone on our local freecycle (greatest organization in the world other than MJ's farmgirl connection...) but it didn't come with instructions and I am not sure how to use it or if it is missing parts. I'd love to get a copy of any Mirro instructions and I'd be happy to trade a couple of handknit cotton dishcloths for your trouble!

Susan, try contacting the manufacturer by phone . They'll tell you where to look for numbers and sizes and may be able to send you one for your exact cooker. I was able to get new gaskets and a booklet for mine. Good luck!

Hey Susan,
Another thing you might find really helpful is the "Ball Blue Book" put out by the Ball jar folks. It is pretty much the canners Bible. :) I wouldn't be without mine!
As far as what parts you should have...Obviously, you should have the pot & lid(DUH), a rubber seal that goes around the inside of the lid, a little weight that sits atop the lid to regulate the pressure (the jiggler), and a tray that fits in the bottom of the pot. Some cookers also come with a wire lifting rack-but it's optional. Most big farm stores like "Farm & Fleet carry replacement parts as well as canning supplies and also the Blue Book. Sometimes those items are only available seasonally. Jars are easily found at tag sales, but always use new lids! Oh, I really prefer the wide mouth jars too, so much easier to fill!
