I found a beautiful pattern for crocheted slippers.
http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php?PID=4547&cps=21191
I made them, but they turned out entirely too big. Could anyone suggest why this might be? Normally my gauges are right on. I used ww yarn and the right size crochet hook. Would it make a big difference if the pattern called for the cotton stuff like you make dishcloths out of?
It is getting frustrating. I want so badly to make a pair of nice warm slippers, but none of the patterns I try turn out right. They are all too big, even the ones that are supposed to be crocheted in ww yarn.

Thanks!
hugs,

Jessie

Im not an expert, so let me say that first off. I know that some people crochet looser than others, this may be part if it? Could you make them over in a smaller size?

I was thinking of remaking them, Sarah. :) I hadn't thought of the looser crochets because it always seems that I am right on,but of course, one can't be right on all the time..hehe :D I only did the one slipper so its not a complete loss, but to put all that work into it and it just be too big..ugh a bug!!

Try a smaller hook and I have found cotton does tend to be a tighter crochet. If ww means worsted weight yarn then it can be stretchier depending on the brand and what is in it. Hope this helps.

Give thanks to yourself everyday for all the wonderful things you do!

I think trying a smaller size hook too
and crochet a little tighter
I remember when my gran taught me about the age of 7 she said my stitches were too loose.
good luck ; don't give up , hugs sheila

You could make them again in wool and felt them since you said the finished slippers were too big and believe me they will be warm and toasty!
