Sarah I have been a surrogate 3 times. The first time, I carried twins for friends of mine. The 2nd time, I miscarried. The last time I did it, 4 years ago I delivered a baby boy for a family over seas.
If you have any other questions, let me know. I want to add that aside from having my own kids, it is the most AMAZING experience EVER! Of course all you hear about are the negatives, but wow.It is amazing ;)

I think surrogates are awesome ladies! Especially you Amanda! I don't think I am strong willed enough to do it, but I am so glad there are women out there that are!

How do you let go? I guess I would have a hard time in giving it up after carrying it. but, I am glad there are some women who can because my heart just aches for women who want a baby and can't have one. I guess I want to see everyone happy..

Beverley, there are 2 types of Surrogates. Traditional and Gestational. I was a Gestational Surrogate. Meaning they took sperm and eggs from the babies parents and basically made an embryo in a dish and put him in my uterus, lol. I was just the "petri dish", just the womb, not the contributer to their gene pool, lol.
I will tell you a secret, after I carried Anan, I wanted to die. I had HORRIBLE PPD. My dh told me I could never be pregnant again. I love those babies SO much.. and I cant imagine, how it would feel to not be able to have a baby. My kids might drive me nuts sometimes, but they are my world.
My 3rd Intended Mom, carried a baby to full term. When she went into labor something went terribly wrong, after 27 hours of labor her baby was still born.3 days later she started severly hemoraging, and lost her uterus. The loss of Her baby and her fertility in 3 days. I cant even fathom.
When I had the twins, their mom was in the delivery room with me. Baby girl was breech and on her way out first so I had a csection. When I had Anan, both of his parents were with me. The pain and joy in that room was unbelivable. I helped them get their family back. They know what its like to be a family. They couldnt be happier.
Anyway it is something I am very passionate about. You usually only hear the bad stories, but there are so many happy endings.I was very lucky, I get regular pictures, dvds of vacations. Mothers days cards,I got a baby book for Anan for his first year. Those babies, all 3 of them, are so special.
Thank you Alee ; )

My hat of to you Amanda. And a big hug too. I bet the parents of the babies you carried for them are so grateful. Yes you hear only the bad stories but I also believe there are way more happy endings.

If I was able to have had a baby through a "surrogate" mom I would have jumped to the opportunity years ago. I have longed for a baby for so many years (silently within myself-I was not ällowed" to voice that want). I have been abale (with help from God and friends) to put the ache away for the most part but sometimes, when I see a little baby and am able to hold, it it comes all back again.

Hugs from Marian/Dutchy, a farmgirl from the Netherlands :)

Amanda, thank you so much for sharing your story. I am considering doing it if I can get everything set up. I am sinle, my son is a teen now, I work from home with a flexible schedule so dr appointments are no problem. Im healthy and my son is the dearest treasure in the world to me and I could be helping someone who is suffering. Im still in the research phase but I think its a wonderful gift to give someone.

Sarah- what a great thing to even consider! You must have a huge heart full of love! *hugs* Amanda once told me that becase as she puts it, she was just the petri dish, it was easier to keep in her mind that the baby did belong and always had belonged to someone else. Amanda is an awesome resource and can tell you the full details that often times you might not always get from a written account.

Sarah if you want to email me in private,I would be happy to help you.
Alee you are too kind.
Marian , I'm so sorry. Sadness like that is the reason I did it. And the reason why I would do it a million times more, if I were able. Hugs

Well cudos to you amanda. I did not mean to imply anything bad. I think it is a wonderful thing that some women do for another family!!!! I am so glad you could do it . I guess I am a bit older than you and when it was first starting you did just hear the horror stories. and I think too they did use the birth mothers eggs so that made it bad when she decided to keep it. I think now things have worked themselves out more legally and petri dish wise and so there are so many bad ending. I think it is great that you could do this for someone else.

Beverley, I didnt think you meant anything bad at all. There are ALOT of horror stories out there. And yes they usually are when the surrogate uses her own eggs.I didnt take offense at all ; )

I remember being in Target, and this lady came up to me and said oh when are you due ( I learned early not to give out too much information )So I told her, then she says what will you name him. And my daughters says, We dont get to name him, we arent keeping him. So then I had to explain the whole process.
