Our kittens are around 9-10 weeks old now and all three of them have diarrhea. I wonder if any of you know what could be causing this? Could it be worms? And do kitties need de-wormed like puppies? And what should I use? Can you tell I really don't know much about much about kittens? Oh the poor babies.
But they all play really well, eat and drink lots. They don't seem to be shedding much. No gunky stuff in their eyes. And they don't seem to have fleas as bad as when they came into the house.

I'd deworm them right away. Also are they eating dry food yet? I'd go to Wallyworld and buy a bottle of cat and kitten dewormer and follow the directions. Make sure you have a little syringe on hand for that. Deworm the mother at the same time. You'll have to do it again in about two weeks. Try it and see if it helps. One thing too, I find that feeding canned food to cats and kittens is pretty bad for them. I haven't fed it in years.

Their momma isn't around. She abandoned them when they were about 6 weeks old. They are on dry food. And have been since they came into the house. I get them the Whiskas kitten food. I'll get the dewormer when I get back out later.
What is coccidia, Sarah?
Thank you! Melanie

Coccidia is a GI tract infection that Ive seen a lot in kittens working in rescue situations. It requires antibiotic treatment. I wish I could tell you more than that. I am not an expert. I know it is treatable but its easy to reinfect them if you dont disinfect everything after treatment. They could have worms. But I think probably its more likely to be coccidia. But I reiterate, not an expert.

I would de-worm this now. I hope they are better soon. Marly

Sounds like coccidiosis to me, especially if all three have it. I'd contact a vet and disinfect their bowls, litterboxes, sleeping area, play area, etc. I've seen this in shelter dogs and it can be serious. The key is to disinfect everything so they don't re-infect each other. And, the anti-biotic treatment. Good luck in getting this cleared up--and bless you for taking in these three kittens. Cindy
