Forgive my spelling, but I'm seeking a couple people, or one, who like to become a long term apprentice with me. What I teach is animal husbandry for sheep and dairy goats, gardening, fruit rearing, weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, and many other needle arts, canning, baking, etc.
You would become a member of the family. I do ask $300/month to defry the costs, but otherwise you would be able to sell what you raise/make for your own profits, have a part time job, etc.
You will get not only the education, but room and board. I suggest a full year, to realize the maximum potential.

Wow! If I lived closer to you I would take you up on that...I've got a 3 year old and a husband who works graves, so I can't come out to Nebraska for a year....but I can dream! Sounds like a great opportunity for someone still in the single phase of life...if only you had posted 5 years ago... :-)

Hi, I would take a week or month apprentice also, a week at $300, a month at $900 as I'd have to take time off work to do that. But it'd be intesive, yet fun! Topics would be narrowed down to what's available at that time of year, and of course the apprentice's interests. Spinning, weaving, etc could be taught year round. Canning best taught in the fall, but jelly/jam making I could do any time (have frozen fruits to play with).
It is a chance to learn from my mistakes, and I've made quite a few! I've farmed in two different states, many places. Learning as I go, and I've been doing the needle arts, and home processing since I was old enough to see over the stove and hold a needle.
This Grandma doesn't want this to die with me, and would love to share it with someone trust worthy, hard working, and pleasant natured. Thanks, Lorna Jean

I so wish I could come for a week but with money tight in the dairy industry...there is just no way I could. I have a spinning wheel and have taken one lesson, but unfortunately the lady that gave me the lesson has taken ill and can no longer see. I am yet to find someone around my parts to give lessons.
I do knit/crochet and I preserve EVERYTHING i can get my hands on. But I would just love to learn more about spinning and be able to produce some beautiful yarns!!
Good luck on your quest for apprentices. So wish I could do it:(

Oh ladies, I do understand tight money, am in a divorce with a nonsupporting dhx. I'm living hand to mouth right now too, but ..... I have some cool spindle kits, wooden drop spindle, 6oz of rare coopworth wool roving (from my ladies) and instructions, and yes, I could do a spindle group here on the forums, if anyone is interested? Drop spindles aren't my favorite way to spin, but it is the cheapest way to get started, and with practice a lovely yarn can indeed be spun! And they are nicely portable! Anyone interested? The roving in the kits is either a nice natural brown wool, or a nice natural gray wool. I could do a kit from white wool too, and later we could do a dying forum? Pictures encouraged. If I knew how, I'd post a picture of the kits here. I do have more than one, but etsy sells only one at a time, you can find my kit there, at http://knit1tat2.etsy.com

I have a drop spindle....I would love a forum on that. I just looked at your etsy and as soon as things start looking uo I am going to get some of your white roving:)

Hi all, just went over to the crafting forums and offered a spindle spinning chat room. If there's enough interest from everyone, there really are alot of support things on the net. You can find how to make your own spindles, great tutorials, and even yahoo support groups for spindle spinning. All are great resources, but I always enjoy when someone starts with a kit from me too!
No matter how you get your spindle, let's have some fun. I'll share pictures, as soon as I can figure it out. I've been a spinner for over 40 years, and knitter and crocheter, etc for even longer than that! So if I can invision the problems you have, I can usually come up with answers! Even on reading patterns, as long as they're in English! Lorna Jean

Hope that helps anyone thinking I maybe am tooting my own horn without any merrit. Not to brag, please don't think I am, I've made sooooo many mistakes, and am knitting a shawl now that has been ripped out 5 times, and now the 3rd knitting with a different yarn! The first yarn, a brown nice wool, went into a Shetland sweater that the yarn agreed to knit with me. The sweater is now living in Arkansas with a friend of mine. The Shetland shawl in the photobucket is living in Indiana with a sweet gal I bartered with. I'm in much better health because of that shawl!

Thanks Suzie, I've been telling myself the same thing, and am believing that somehow, someway, I won't have to give up my favorite way of life! The house in the pictures we no longer live in, now in an old farm house in need of....... but still worth the effort due to the land it's sitting on! thanks, Lorna Jean
