Last week I made the apple butter recipe that was being talked about on here. It was so good. Then during the week someone asked if I had ever made pumpkin butter. The answer is no. But it got me to wondering...does anyone else make it?

I am thinking to long route would/could be to put cut, peel, and "core" the pumpkin. I know that means get the strings and seeds out. Put it in the crockpot and sort of follow the same program, you think? The short route would be open the can and put the pumpkin in the crock pot heat and add spices?

I would love this and any fall "butter" type recipes.

I'm curious about making pumpkin butter too. I tried a sample of some at Whole Foods yesterday and liked it. They charge $8 for a small jar, so I'm hoping to find a recipe and make my own.

Check out the recipe at allrecipes.com for pumpkin butter. Be sure to read the reviews at the bottom - some info on canning it or not, using canned pumpkin puree, homemade pumpkin puree and even using the pumpkin butter to make Pumpkim Pecan Ice Cream.
Looks good, I may make up a batch this weekend.

Have fun!

I made pumpkin butter a couple weeks ago. It was the first time I had ever done it. I got the recipe off a piece of cloth that Melody June (Cabin princess) set to me. :) I don't have the recipe with me, but I can post it later. It was not a crock pot recipe though, I cooked it on top of the stove.

I used pumpking from my garden, spices, brown sugar and grated apple. Turned out great!

yes, please post any recipes... i'm very interested since i have a TON of pumpkins in my basement waiting to be dealt with (squash too!) i've had the "can or not to can" discussion a lot lately and i've decided i don't want to take the risk of canning anything with pumpkin in it... but i will definately freeze it! too bad... i wanted to make some as holiday gifts, but i'll have to opt to make apple butter instead.

Hi - Here's what my "guide" says about canning pumpkin. Wash, remove seeds, cut into 1-inch slices and peel. Cut flesh into 1-inch cubes. Boil 2 minutes in water. CAUTION - Do Not mash or puree. Fill jars with cubes and cooking liquid, leaving 1-inch headspace. Adjust lids and process in pressure canner (55 min for pints or 90 min for Quarts). For making pies, drain jars and strain or sieve cubes.

I hope you find good things to make with your pumpkins. I am the only one in our house that likes it, so I do very little.
