Boye, the company that makes a lot of knitting and crocheting tools, patterns, etc. has a great book called "I Taught Myself Knitting". It has simple instructions and clear diagrams. I've also used "Knitting - 200 Q & A's, but can't remember the author, I borrowed it from the library. Also, go to the Lion Brand website...great videos and everything. I've just started to knit and I LOVE it...hope you feel the same way when you get started. I've started, pulled apart and restarted a couple of dishcloths and it is sooo comforting, calming, and fun to accomplish! Let us know how it goes...

I have looked at the "I Taught Myself Knitting" book too, I think it is by Leisure Arts. My 20 yo son has just taught himself to knit (he got tired of waiting for me to get around to it) with the book Knitting with Balls. He checked it out from the Library and informed me that they have a lot of books that I could use too. Maybe this winter I will get around to learning.

I taught myself to knit with "Stich And B****"...it came highly recommended, and I could actually understand the text, and illustrations (I'm a lefty). I also liked the easy going manner in which the author writes.
I also took one 30 min. class to get me some hands on help and whammo, I knit constantly (and well!).

You can also get on youtube and search for how to knit. It has specific videos that I still refer to when I need to know how..... I also have the "I taught" books an dthey are pretty good, but some of the pics are hard to understand.
