Okay I went to bed at 2:15am. My dad came and woke me up at 3:30am to tell me that my grandpa has been shot in the chest and we need to get to the hospital. I freaked out. I was shaking && crying. I felt like we couldn't get there fast enough. He was in the hospital 45 min. from my town. It was foggy so we had to drive 55. I continued to pray for him and for us to fly like angels. That was the longest drive to woodward you could ever imagine.

We get to the emergency room, they had been working on him for awhile but he was stable enough that we could see him. I still have the imagine of running in there and seeing him lying on the bed with the blood still on him . When he grabbed my hand he smiled and said it's okay babygirl I'm okay. He was even telling jokes.
The bullet missed all major organs. He broke 3 ribs and the bullet is still lodged in his chest.

The terrifying part is he was shot by his own foster child whom he has had for over 4 years. They even had adopted her. They had a new girl they had for maybe 4 months. She was behind all of it.
Ashley went into the bedroom when my grandparents were asleep and shot my grandpa in the chest. My grandma jumped out of bed screamed and was horrified. She went for the phone, Ashley screamed at her saying dont move or I'll kill you. Grandma simply said if it'll make you feel better go ahead but I'm calling 911 for my husband.
She fired the gun but the gun jammed. The other girl Kelsi was trying to load her other gun but she was putting the wrong shell into the gun. (God is sooooo amazing!!!!!)
I know God was with them last night. My grandpa always sleeps on his side but he was sleeping on his back they said if he was on his side it would have hit his lung.

We are all so very thankful that he is Okay. He spent most of the day in ICU because he was having trouble breathing. He was recently moved out of ICU onto the third floor.
Please keep him in your prayers and my entire family as well.
Ashley is 16 years old. Kelsi is 15. Kelsi's reason for doing this was she was tired of being in DHS custody. They are being charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder (they had this planned before they even arrived for their visit). They will be considered adults so we hope justice will be served.

My grandparents are Pastors and are so loving. This experience has made them reach the decision to no longer be foster parents.

Please pray.. I am still in shock... I am off to bed I have only had four hours of sleep since this whole experience.

Oh Dear GOD! How terrible! I am so sorry Melissa, this is a horrific thing for you all to go through. I hope that you can get some rest. I'll pray for your grandpa and for justice to be served and the girls get some counselling as well.
I admire your grandma's courage and faith and am so glad that the bullet didn't hit anything vital in your grandpa.
*hugs*

Oh my gosh, what a night you have all had. I'm so glad your G & G are going to be ok. Wow, what those kids must have gone through to think that was an ok next step to take, frightening. Hope the next little while brings healing and peace to your family.

NO WAY! OMG! God is so good............ the gun "jammed"? That was totally the hand of God!
I am so glad he is going to be ok! For those girls to do that to him, after all he must have done for them! Sheesh!
ALSO: this is a good example of why gun owners should always secure their guns properly, NO MATTER WHAT. Even if you don't have young kids in the house. My husband has many guns that he collects and uses, and we keep them locked up in a cabinet. My brothers also do this, and unload them, hiding the ammunition in a different location. It is SO important!

I am so so sorry Melissa!

And so very true Hosanna! Always always always have your guns and ammunition locked up and in different areas.

Even if you have NO children of any age!

I personally know of families shot with their own guns, by strangers or acquaintances, because the people heard they had guns so broke in and used the families own on them. So always always have them locked up. I believe my dad's aren't even in the house. But, in a case in the garage (not as accessible to others).

Melissa,

I am so very sorry that this happened. My goodness, your grandparents sound like such wonderful, caring people and no one deserves for that to happen to them. Thank goodness your grandfather is going to be all right. Something like that happened to me as well, but it was my father who was shot and I was only 20 months old at the time. (I just turned 44 on the 16) It was in 67 when my father was shot in the middle of the street by an acquaintance he had previously worked with (who had gotten it into his head that he wanted to eliminate anyone who had gotten on his wrong side) But unlike your wonderful grandfather, he had lost too much blood by the time he got to the hospital and we lost him. I'm so very glad that you will still have your grandfather in your life. Nothing is as important as family. Take care, know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and please keep us posted on how he is doing.

That must of been the most terrifying night of all your lives. I certainly don't blame your grandparents for not being foster parents again. I would't either. I hope and pray that your grandpa has a fast and full recovery. Although I imagine the emotional recovery will take a lot longer. Your grandma is a couageous woman, thank God the gun jammed. There is no excuse for this in my opinion. I am just glad everyone will recover. My heart goes out to your whole family.

Hugs and prayers MJ

Sigh. This is so tragic and horrible to hear. I am so sorry all of you went through this. Your poor Grandparents. "Tired of being in DHS custody".... What for? Why?? Sounds like she finally had foster parents who weren't bad and were being good to them and then this... so they'd rather go and try to kill people and then be in "prison custody" instead of DHS care ... her logic is crazy. Way to go, brilliant, kids. :-/

OMG, I am so sorry this kind of tragedy happened, I worked with at risk teens for many years, brought them here to my farm/ranch and taught them about our way of life, of the 47 kids,( boys & girls), only one did not stay thru the program. I have found that some kids, by the time you get hold of them, are just too broken, and not fixable. I hope those girls get the proper help they need to hopfully become decent human beings someday.

Dearest Hosanna,
My prayers and thoughts go out to you and to your family, and yes even those foster girls. Sometimes, words do not seem to do a situation/time/trial any justice, so I will not use my own;

Fear thou not, for I am with thee. Be not dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen thee. Yea, I will help thee. Yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

Thou, therefore, endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:3

May He be with you in these hard times...blessings Hosanna.
Shalom

How scary for all. I am glad your grampa is ok and way to go gramma, you rock. facing down a gun and 2 troulbed girls? unreal. My nephew took in 3 siblings for over a year when the mom decided she wanted all 3 back it was a slow proceedure but he said it was so hard the kids gave him no respect, they were mean to each other and him, he said that he decided he couldn't do it again. Some kids just don't get it. My prayers go out to all involved. It truly is sad.

Hope all your days are Sunnydays.
