I re-read the Artists in Apron issue of the magazine last night and I was struck again at how adorable the topsy turvy Red Riding Hood doll looks. Has anyone made this? I'd love to see photos. I haven't tried it yet - my sewing skills aren't up to this yet, but perhaps soon.

I have this doll. It was made by one wonderful seamstress, but I have no clue who. It was purchased on etsy by someone who found it at a rummage sale. I have made topsy turvy dolls in the past (not the red riding hood one) and believe I still have the pattern. I must tell you that they are a little tricky to make and not for a beginning seamstress. That doll is adorable! Yes, I feared that it might be beyond my sewing skills. I wonder if I can find a farmgirl with the Aprons issue that might be willing to make it for me for a fee.

I love it!!!! I have the issue it was in, it was in a Fall (before the mag was regularly printed) issue of 2005, I believe. I am not sure if I can find it right now though as so much is packed away.
But, I actually bought the issue for this patten alone! And no other reason. But, loved the issue too! hahaha And it was my first ever issue of the magazine and what led me here! hahaha

Is that just one doll? How is that done? I thought they were just turned upside down and the dress pulled up. But that looks like it might be 2 dolls.

I made one of the topsy turvy dolls years ago and gave it away as a present, so I know longer have it to show you but it was the kind where there were 2 faces ,one on either end where the dress lifted up and there was the other one. It was not hard and I bet if you sat down and gave it a try you would be able to make it.. I don't have the magazine or I would say I would make you one for a small fee. Bev

What about making even more faces by putting one under the back of the long hair...I have seen one awake face and the other one sleeping. It could be fun to make for our next dolly swap...doesn't look any harder to make than any doll. There are no legs...just put two dolls together at their waist and sew a lined skirt over on the waist area. Ya could have one side be a pregnant woman and the other side with her holding her new baby...(aren't I clever...LOL)
