when you are sick. I am just getting over being sick but now my mom, sister, and brother are sick. I've been giving them lots of soup and tea all day. Is there anything else I can do? I've been so busy cleaning, doing laundry, school, all day. I'm so tired. any, Thanks for any help.

When their stomach fells a little better you can start giving them applesauce, dry toast and bananas. Keep them hydrated. You also need to take a little breaks so you don't get sick all over again. Lots of vitamin C and stay hydrated yourself. Try to get some rest.Another idea, weather permitting you can air out the house open the windows. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the tips. I'm under a lot of stress right now because I have tons of homework due this week and then I got sick and that put me behind. So I'm really hoping I don't get sick again... Thanks!

Sounds like you are doing the perfect thing Maggie. What a blessing you are to your family. I will be praying for healing for everyone and that you can get your schoolwork done on time (or have gracious instructors :))

Lots of great ideas here! If there have been tummy upset/issues, I have never forgotten what the doctor recommended when my daughter was young. He called it the BRAT diet - B for bananas, R for rice or rice krispies (dry), A for applesauce or apples with no peel (too hard on the stomach) and T for toast - jam is okay, but no fat because it would not be good on a recovering tummy. I'm going to try the ginger tea - ginger and peppermint are both good for nausea, etc.

Brat diet here too for tummy issues. In addition to my usual medecine cabinet stuff I always keep homemade chicken broth and popsicles in the deep freeze and always have some canned gingerale stashed away for nausea. The chicken broth is the go-to for the time between the ice chips (gotta love those kids snow cone machines) and the brat diet. Warming and a good test to see if the tummy is ready to advance to the brat diet. The popsicles are great for sore throats.

For colds and flu its a hot soak in peppermint laden bath water and hot herbal teas

For tummy trouble, it's gingerale or 7-up and saltine crackers. Sometimes the salty broth of chicken noodle soup is soothing, but best not to be pushed 'till the thought of food sounds better

We'll be up for flu shots middle of October

Sure hope we and our parnets can stay healthy

when i had the flu a couple of years ago, we got this recipe for a re-hydrating drink, like pedialyte, but for adults and cheaper! one quart of water, 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup sugar. shake til everythng is well blended, then drink as much as you can over an hour or so. doesn't taste that bad and works. lemon juice makes it taste more like lemonade.

If it is flu like symptoms then I have Ginger Ale and saltine crackers. If I'm getting a cold or stuffy nose I want hot sweetened tea and cinnamon sugar toast, and later chicken soup for lunch or dinner.

I make carrot ginger soup. It's our favorite, so comforting and nourishing.
Chop an onion, saute in a little olive oil, add 4 cloves (or so) of galic, and 1/2 inch sliced fresh ginger. Saute until soft, add about a quart of water, and a bunch of carrots, peeled and sliced. 4 tsp. chicken or vegetable buillion and cook until soft. Then I blend with an immersion blender and enjoy with toast or crackers. We also like gingerale when we're not feeling good, a natural variety like Hansen's.
My son has the flu, so I bought two big bunches of carrots at the farmer's market on Sat.

Hey Rhonda, With that homemade Pedialyte mix, should you drink it room temp, or can a fella chill it or pour it over ice? Just wondering.

Chicken noodle soup and buttered saltines. If I have a sore throat, hot apple cinnamon tea with bourbon and honey.

My other "comfort food" make-me-feel-better-all-over is toasted Thomas' English Muffins with butter. Nothing makes me feel better!
