Good Morning Porchies...I should put my tennis shoes on and catch up with Lida. It was so hot yesterday
that I didn't walk until 8:15 pm and then had to walk less than a mile because it got pitch dark out and
I had no reflective clothing on. And even Bella is all Black. LOL Today it is suppose to be 25 degrees
cooler!
Lida, Tammy And Angela...glad to hear that you all love to read. I am an avid reader...but other than my
magazines and Christian Devotionals & Study Books...I love good Novels. Not a Romance reader at all but love good mysteries, thrillers and every once in awhile something humorous. I don't like light reads...I like something a bit more meaty. I read both Christian and Non-Christian Novels. I am reading a really good Teen
Trilogy right now...which is futuristic, socialistic, and down right scary. It's called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Reminds me of the book Lord of The Flies that we had to read in High School. I remember that I didn't like that book at the time but this Trilogy is down right gripping. A real page turner! I am almost through the first book and have the other two to read. ~ I love books of all kinds Lida and hope they never go out of Print...but I do have an electronic E-Reader...The Kindle. When we down-sized into our 778 sq. ft Senior Apartment...I needed to get rid of at least one of my last two book shelves. So, I donated all the books and the shelves to our Library here in the building. Then my husband bought me the e-reader for Christmas that year. It is the best gift I have ever gotten in my life! With my Fibro and arthritis in my hands it was impossible to hold Hard-Cover books anymore. And mass market paper back books were hard to hold open (they are narrower and more compact in size). The e-reader is light weight and very easy to carry anywhere, anytime. And The Kindle holds 1500 books on it. The new one that Kindle is just releasing (the generation 3 Kindle) will hold 3500 books and the battery will last one month before having to be recharged. That is pretty awesome. BUT there will always be people who won't want the electronic option and want nice big Libraries in their homes...like Angela. I was one of those people for years. But if you move too many times...your children start complaining about how heavy all your boxes of books are. LOL When my husband and I got married 25 years ago...we each had our own huge Library to combine. We could have bought a house strictly for our books...but we gradually had to sell them, swap them, give them away etc.
Well, blah...blah...blah, I guess I better get my Tennies on and go walk. More later! Hope I didn't bore all you non-readers to tears. Hee hee!

Angela-you will have to keep us posted on how your class goes...it sounds like so much fun
I'm with you guys on the reading, I really love it but it's a challenge right now with the little ones. I've resigned myself to the fact that unless I don't want to sleep, I only have enough time in the evening for some MJF magazine time, or some other quick reading. Every once in a while I can sneak a read at work when things are slow but since I'm home most of the time, I don't get into heavy reads at the moment
Went to pre-school orientation today and Sophia didn't want to leave. I guess that means she liked it!

Hi everyone! It's been really busy, but I wanted to find time to get to the porch even if just for a few minutes! I'm definitely with everyone who loves to read! I love it, and I hope I still have time for it with school. I'm reading at least three right now!
Lida, that's so sad about your city's schools. I think that's a problem throughout the nation right now:( I was fortunate enough to go to a private Catholic school from second grade on, and I go to a private Catholic high school, but not everyone is afforded that luxury, and I just think that the school system of the nation is in such turmoil. Glad your daughter is going to a Christian school! I think they are such fun! Is she going to be in 10th grade?
Darlene, when you make those cookies, please save one for me! Yummy!

I'm home from my class. I got to spend the whole day with Starletta(Star-Schipp), another farmgirl. I had a blast at class, but my head is spinnin from all the heavy science type info from todays class. We learned about food safety and spoilers and got about halfway through the chapter on freezing. I like that we get to do hands on work and then bring home the goodies. I got 2 pint freezer containers of strawberries, 3 pint bags of apples, and 2 pint bags of corn. That's what we prepared and froze today.
I did get a little perterbed with my sister today. My mom had to have hand surgery today. She wasn't able to drive herself home. My dad had his amputated leg corrective surgery last week, so he wasn't able to drive her home. My sister was supposed to drive them there and home. She decided at 10 last night she didn't want to cause she wanted to spend the day with her hubby. My other sister just started a new job, so she couldn't do it. Guess who was expected to handle it...ME! I had my first class today! My DH stepped up and handled it for me, but my sister really had me angry this morning when she called and told me she wasn't gonna do it. I was glad my DH was able to do it, but he should have been free to job hunt like he wanted to. My sister just didn't want to have to get out of bed on her day off. Her hubby spent the day helpin my grandpa with his well pump and my sis didn't even go with him! Sometimes people really irritate me.
I'm so glad you ladies are here. You all keep my hope for the basic good in people alive! I'm gonna spend the rest of my evening readin over the class material and eatin dinner and just forget about the rest. My mom's surgery took 2 hours longer than planned. Her arm was way worse than they thought, so she had to have pins and plates put in. She may even have to have a second surgery. She's at least better than she was, just not quite fixed yet.
I've got 'tomato bisque' soup. I forgot to get anything out for dinner. I grabbed some home canned tomatoes, tomato soup, and some sour cream dips I had picked up to spice something up with, 1 garlic parmesan and 1 ranch. I threw all of it in the pot and told the family it was tomato bisque soup. They made grilled cheese sandwiches to go with it and everyone is thrilled with it. I got the dips for $.25 each cause they were 2 days from their sell by date. The whole pan full cost me $3 and they think it's some fancy something. It does taste great, which is good cause the stewpots full. Grab a bowl and theres still sandwiches! Enjoy!

Angela...your class sounds really awesome and I am glad that you and Starletta will have a chance to get
to know one another. ~ Family can be the most frustrating of all can't they? Even though we love
them...they know how to push our buttons easier than anyone else. I will keep both your mom & dad
in my prayers and your hubby with the job search.
Dana...I love the name Sophia! I am glad that she liked her preschool. It is so nice to have the picture of the
three of you because I can picture you now...so clearly when you chat about yourself or the girls. When
my kids were small I kept a Novel in the bathroom...so, I could at least read a couple of pages when I
had to go in there. LOL Where there is a will there is a way!!!
Megan...I am glad that school is going once again and that you are a happy girl about all your activities and about being in High School. Enjoy these days...they fly by!
Hey Porchies...I want to keep reminding you to swap pictures! I love having my Photo Journal going and I bet I look at you all two or three times per day.
Well, speaking of good reads...I want to go crawl in bed and enjoy the last of this first book of the Trilogy.
I brought some soft Ginger Cookies to the Porch tonight. And the coffee pot! Help yourselves!

Good Morning!
Oh, Peggy, ginger cookies are one of my favorite cookies! Thank you! My DD has The Hunger Games. She is waiting for the the third book in the trilogy; she ordered it online and is waiting for it to be delivered. She loves them, so maybe based on yours and hers recommendation I will read them too.
Today is my first day of vacation! I have an old library desk that I got at a garage sale. Today my youngest DD and I are going to strip the top and put on a new finish. It will become our new computer desk because the one we have now is too big for the dining room, which is where we keep the computer. Speaking of youngest DD, we thought we were finally set on a school for this fall when she threw us a nice curve ball- she would prefer to be homeschooled again! With school starting so soon we don't have much time to prepare, but if that is what she wants we are excited to oblige her. Now the desk stripping and refinishing will be home economics class!

Morning! Cooler weather is here so the plan for today is to paint my camper. Went out to start and had to pull back the reins. It's all wet, oh well, gives me chance to sit on the porch and catch up with you all while she drys. ;o )
Thank you Darlene, Monica and Peggy for the encouragement about parenting and trusting God with my kids. He is the Best Father and they've known Him for years. So, now I just need to do as you reminded me - trust.
Pam, I hope your week ends on a higher note and that you have an awesome weekend. I love that I can put your name and face together in my head (and Lola, too!)
Angela, may have been 2 days ago - you shared about your girls and their giving hearts and how you love them - well, safe to say, we all love them, too. You're a great example and an awesome mom. BTW - Are you sure you're not teaching the master preserver class?...'cause it sounds like you could be.
Dana, so glad that Sophia enjoyed the orientation, makes it better for both of you.
Lida, best wishes for the homeschooling and happy that it's an option for you, so many aren't able to do it.
Glad to hear everyone's experiences with school have been good so far this week. My kids are back in the swing already and makes me want to go back myself.
Books!!! Love 'em!! Our house is pretty small so my "library" is in the attic - boxes and boxes and a few bookcases. My husband is always joking that the ceiling is going to fall in on us if I put any more up there. I enjoy all kinds: Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey westerns, John Grisham thrillers, the Left Behind series, Francine Rivers, American History, and I do have a weakness for historic romance - particularly medieval and Scottish stories. I have lots of DIY home repair books, crafting, jewelry, soapmaking, TEATIME, MJF, and country decorating magazines, too.
Hmmmm, now I feel like reading - but the ole' camper may be dry and if she's not, I've got a load of laundry to hang out. So, if I have any energy left, I may be back later.
Left a plate of lemon-blueberry scones by the teapot for you all.

Staci and Cherime your Libraries sound like mine use to be.LOL But now mine are electronically stored...so less,
messy and no ceilings on the verge of falling through! Hee Hee! I love Francine Rivers...one of my all time favorite Christian writers. I love Scottish and Irish Immigrant stories too. I refuse to read anymore John Grisham...I liked his books when he first started writing and then he started making them with all bad endings and I'm more the happy ever after kinda girl...even if it is un-realistic! Ha Ha!
Lida...I just got the third book in the series, it came out Tuesday. If the other two are as good as this first one, I would highly recommend the read to you. And from what I hear from some of my Barnes & Noble Family...they are! I love good children/young adult books too. ~ I think that is awesome that your daughter still wants to be Home Schooled. How cool is that?
Kinda quiet on the Porch so far today huh? Well it is Friday and I bet everyone will show up after school and after work. Well, I have some stuffed zucchini in the oven I better go check on it and see if it's done. Decided to cook dinner ahead of time and then just re-heat when hubby gets home.

Any ginger cookies left from last night...I love those..well, I just love cookies....I've been 3 days with fruit and veggies..trying to do a little cleansing....I feel pretty good, but I sure was hungry earlier....

Peggy, isn't it hard to downsize? My husband and I are dealing with getting rid of stuff right now and all we do is argue about it, so I just throw it back out in the garage...it's making me crazy...I want to get rid of it instead of storing it in the garage...and he wants to keep it, but what good is it out there? And it won't fit in this little house...so we sit in gridlock! this too shall pass......

Evening ladies,
Oh the sweet joy of Friday. My little butterflies have gone home to rest for the weekend and this teacher is enjoying some quiet time with a cup of tea as my dear hubby and boys went to the football game. I must say it was a good week but I am tired.
I am looking forward to working in my flowers and herbs tomorrow and then spending the afternoon with my mom. We are doing lunch.
Dear ladies you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I have sure missed yall this week.
well I am giong to take my tea and curl up with nook and read my book.

Tammy...I bet this was really a busy week for you girl with all your darling butterflies!
So, how do you like your Nook E-Reader? Our friends at Barnes & Noble tease us all the
time because my husband and I both bring in our Kindles to read in the Cafe and of
course they sell the Nook. LOL But we had our Kindles before the Nook ever even came
on the Market. Are you reading something good?

Wow, I'm so glad I found you ladies. I feel very welcome and know I'm going to love this group. I've been busy at my shop getting ready for a shop hop just around the corner. I can't do any big sales to get rid of stuff..we all sign an agreement that we won't. But the week after is when I'll put everything on sale. If you know of anyone in the Yosemite areas.. tell them to come buy for a great quilt shop sale. I love the fact that there are a few of you that will be close by. I hope that I don't have to stay in The Dalles for too long. I applied for a job with a company I have wanted to work for for a few years now. It will be a traveling job around Washington and the top half of Oregon. So hopefully I'll get a chance to meet some farmgirls. I Love reading about all your work around your farms. Being raised a city girl I think you have the best of education on how to be self sufficient. Raising chickens, gardening... I would love to live that life. Maybe I'll find a nice farmer someday who doesn't mind a tenderfoot farm girl. I hope all you western ladies are enjoying the cooler weather today. I actually put on a sweatshirt this morning. It is pretty quiet this weekend here. Everyone is dealing with kids in school so sales are dismal at best. But I won't have to turn on the airconditioner today... yipeee! I hate that thing.

I'm going to start making a point to try to remember everyone's names... you guys are wonderful.
Megan enjoy high school all you can. It can be the best years of your life. I was the "weird girl" I lived in a very wealthy area but was one of the poor kids. I wish I could go back and do it differently.
Angela, I'm so coming to your house for dinner..it sounded great!
I just finished "the girl with the dragon tattoo" It was ok. Everyone is raving about it.. it was good but just another murder mystery to me. I think the big deal was he was trying to bring into light the abuse that so many Swedish women put up with. It was sad to learn that.
I have tons of books at my house. There is a used book seller behind my shop. He is also struggling up here. So instead of taking my books to the library I take them to him so he can make a little money. He works part time at the park (Yosemite). I know the library is important but they sell the books for $1.00 and the money goes to the library. But this guy is trying to eat. I have found it is hard to part with some of my favorites.
I'm also downsizing my house big time. I have so much stuff that I never use. I'll be having yard sales each weekend in October to get rid of stuff. I have this vision of what ever can't fit in on of my bedrooms.. doesn't go. I don't really know how much space at my mom's house I'll have. So I figure less is better.

Peggy, I have given up on bad endings. There's enough of that in life. It a shame that the bookseller is having such a hard time. We have the larger book places up here and two used book places that do a respectable business. Time to get moving. Later ladies.

Hey Porchies! I'm gettin more peaches today. I'm also workin the garden today. I pulled a few carrots last night and some were really big, so I had better dig them. Plus I need the room for more carrots, beets and peas. I think I'm gonna put out some more lettuces too. I have 2 tomato plants that have been stunted and not producin all summer. We left them since they weren't in the way and we kept hopin they'd grow. They didn't sun scald like the others. They have begun to grow, so we're gonna try to keep them goin. We're gonna minigreenhouse them right in the garden and see how long we can keep them goin. I'd love to have tomatoes way longer than my dad, since he always get the first ones.
My 21m/o baby girl learned a new phrase today that had us rollin on the floor. She was watchin tv in her tub in the livin room with us this mornin. A commercial for some toy came on and she turned around to look at us and said 'way cool' and giggled. My DH and I nearly fell out of our chairs laughin at her! She was gigglin and dropped her toy on the floor and couldn't reach it. She just looked up at the ceiling and said 'no way' like it was so horrible. I couldn't help it. I absolutely bellowed with laughter and my DH couldn't even get up to get it for her he was laughin so hard. We just couldn't believe this little bitty thing was comin up with such grown up soundin things.
Well, I guess I had better get back out to the garden. Hope everyone has a great day!

Thanks Bunny! The school is I go to is also full of very affluent people, and my family isn't poor, but we are not as affluent as most of the girls at my school.
Books! Again, I love em'! My personal favorite place to buy books is Half Price Books. They sell such a good variety of books at amazing prices! I also like to sell back to them.

Hi girls,
I enjoyed a morning of sleeping in a bit. Then got up worked in my herbs and then met mom for lunch. We enjoyed a nice afternoon togther.
Peggy I love my nook. It goes everywhere with me. I am a Barnes and Noble addict and well ran out of room for books so now I read on nook in their cafe with my tea. I am reading Eat, Love, and Pray which is ok but then going to read The Help after that. I just downloaded to my nook some Willa Cather books so excited to read them.
Tomorrow is church and then hoping to work on my quilt that didn't make it to the fair. It is going to be getting cooler here soon and want one to cuddle up with.
Angela peaches sound so good right now. I picked some up at a farmer's market that were delicious.

Tammy, my uncle has the Sony E-reader, and he loves it. I personally like the feeling of holding a book in my hand. But to each his own! Either way, I love reading!
Tomorrow is organizing and homework day! Whoo? Or maybe just a boo hoo. Next week once everything is organized, I will hopefully start getting to church again! I just have to have everything ready for the school year, and as of now, I don't! I need to organize my homework spot (currently my area of the table is full of stuff, so I can't do anything there until it's cleaned) so that once I start getting more homework, I have a spot to do it in!

Just checking in with everyone, wanted to say hello
We've had a busy few days-spent yesterday at the fair and had a marvelous time. It was my oldest daughter's bday (she's already 3!) and she had a blast. She got to ride a donkey and a pony (very big on her list), Nevada is revamping their fair to be a old time wild west theme so they had a buffalo bill style show, and revolutionary and civil war stuff. The 4H stuff is always a favorite too. She fell in LOVE with all the chickens, which is good because I plan on having several when we finally get up to our property in Idaho permanently. I just love the fair!!! Going to go back tomorrow to see the weiner dog races.
Today we went up to Lake Tahoe for a friend's 40th birthday, which was also a blast, although freezing. You could see it snowing up on the ridgetops! But I love Tahoe so much that it doesn't matter the weather, it always puts me in a great mood.

Dana...I have only driven past Tahoe but never stopped. What do you like best about it?
Sounds like your weekend has been a blast! That is what weekends are for...having fun!
Megan...I am with you girl...I need organization around me to be able to do any kind of work.
One of the last things I do each night is make sure that every room in our Apt is picked
up and the dishes are done. I hate getting up to a mess and disorganization...that can
set me off on a grumpy mood quicker than anything. I told you all I was raised by a
perfectionist Mother...I wasn't kidding! LOL But I couldn't get up and make breakfast if
the kitchen was a mess...I would have to clean the kitchen first, then make breakfast.
Tammy...I heard that Eat, Love, Pray was a pretty good story. I am not familiar with Willa Cather books,
I will have to check her out on my Kindle. I am with you...I am a Barnes & Noble addict and my
E-Reader goes everywhere with me.
Bunny...God was good to me when it came to down sizing...I was able to do it in stages, which was awesome
because with my Fibro I would have stressed too much having to do it all at once. We went from a
house to a Condo, to a large apartment and then to this smaller Senior Apartment. So, at each stage
over a three year period...I kept down-sizing. I would get rid of stuff when I packed, and then when
I un-packed and then again about 6 months into where ever we were living. Even now...I go through the
Apt and get rid of anything we haven't used in a year and give it away. I set up a "Free Table" here
in our Senior Estates...so, anything anyone wants to get rid of goes on there. It is always scooped
up immediately. It is nice to know that you are helping others out and it isn't costing them anything.
I don't envy you having to go through all the down-sizing and then move in with your mom whose home is already established...it would be so hard to know what you'll be able to use or not use. Do you plan to put
things in storage anywhere? Also your Quilt Shop...that has to be hard. Wow! My prayers are with you!
Angela...the Peaches sound delicious! My girlfriend just made our Bible Study Group a couple home-made
Peach Pies. One was sugar free (which is what I had) and it was yummy! I can only imagine the other one was even better!
It has been a rough week in my family but...there are also more blessings than I can count. God is good!
And He is the same God of The Vallies, and Deserts as He is of The Mountain Tops. Praise His Holy Name that He is ever Faithful, Trustworthy and full of Lovingkindness.
