Prairie Tammy...are you moving to The Farm with Benny??? I feel like I missed something??????????????? I got rid of some Christmas Decor too but not much. But over the last few weeks I have been getting rid of kitchen stuff that I no longer use. That needs more de-cluttering actually but I have 3 boxes of stuff going to The Thrift Store.
Sabrina...Hey girl! I like your Cleansgiving!! And I can relate to a whirlwind Grandmother coming to visit too. My MIL could dance circles around me, while singing and cleaning and putting something on the Stove for Dinner later that day. I left her to watch my kids for 5 days one time and when I got home she had polished the bottoms of my Farberware Pots and Pans, re-apolstered the Dining room chairs, made new pillows for the Sofa...all while watching 3 rambunctious boys. There were other things she did too but I can't remember what they were. I remember I hated the Fabric she used on my chairs...but hey...what can you say when someone is trying to be helpful????? Good Luck Honey with your Christmas Visitor! Hopefully she will only do things that you want done. LOL
Judy...I got ALL of Christmas Decorating done yesterday. About 2:00 pm I was ready for a nap but pushed through to get done. Finally sat down at 8:00 pm and watched the VOICE! I love that show! So all my Thanksgiving & Fall got put away yesterday too. The Cupboards I use to store my Home Decor are in my Kitchen (large lower cabinets) so, I have to get down on my hands and knees and that is Okay...it's the getting back up that nearly kills me. LOL I asked myself why I do ALL this every Holiday and Myself answered...Because you enjoy it so much!" I have two Christmas Grinches living with me...so, it isn't for them that is for susre. LOL
Right now I am Listening to Pentatonix Christmas CD, drinking flavored coffee and already got my haircut and some shopping done. I start Christmas Cards tonight or tomorrow. Again, why do I do it?? Because I Love the Process I guess. I rarely even get half of the amount I send out...but I do enjoy catching up with Friends and Family this time of Year.
Nora...I hope you find The Spirit again too!!! Christmas is MY Favorite Time of The Year!!! Love Everything About It!!!
OK Ladies I'm off to relax a little while I can. I have to take it in small spurts this time of year but that is OK!!
Love You All, Peggy

PeggyAnn - Sorry you're confused. Yes, I'm moving to the farm with Benny after my lease is up in February. I told Jordon this weekend. Benny's been asking me for weeks to move up there. He wants me there before Christmas but I feel I need to wait until my lease is up despite him offering to pay the rent through the end of my lease. It's a self respect thing for me - I don't want him paying my bills. It will also give me time to look for a job up there. We also need to decide what stays at his place and what I'm taking from mine. Oh, you can come decorate my place for me since you've got yours done already LOL. I need to decorate my place plus the farm so any help would be appreciated :O)

Her only sleeping 4 hours might be a bit of an exaggeration...but only a bit. I know when we have visited her she was up until midnight or later then up again by 5am. Peggy your mother in law sounds EXACTLY like her!! She is nearly 80, but just watching her exhausts me and I don't consider myself lazy!!! LOL Last time we saw her was right before Grandpa passed away and she was his caregiver for years so I don't know if that has changed things for her now. We have some specific activities and baking opportunities planned for her. Being gluten free is a bit hard for her to understand so we have planned some things and already bought ingredients so she can bake with the kids and not worry about their restrictions.
Tammy I'm decluttering and cleaning in December as well. I've made some good progress already but still have a lot to go. Then I'm doing lots of planning, getting a schedule in place since I was never able to establish a routine while hubby was gone, rearranging out schooling (we are considering making a drastic change in how we homeschool), setting goals, updating my household notebook and budget etc etc. I have lists of things I'd like to accomplish in December to kick off the year strong! Some may end up going into January though.
Has anyone got the new Mary Jane books?? I'd really like to get copies, thinking about using my bday money from my grandmother for them....but it isn't a NEED. I'm also eyeing the book in her latest magazine about knitting birds. The article mentions that the authors have several knit and crochet pattern books I'd love to get, I would totally learn to knit to make those adorable birds!!!
Well I better get to cleaning, only 2 days left to get ready for Grandma!!

Nora...I need to start on my cards too. But today I have kids all day as Sadie's Mom is going in for re-corrective eye surgery. Not what I had planned on doing today but Family helps Family...that is my Motto. LOL I send out between 80-100 cards so it is usually a process of at least a week or two.
Prairie Tammy...I thought I had missed something but I am pretty good at reading between the lines! LOL I think you are smart NOT to let him pay your bills... stick to that! But I am happy for you!! Just don't jump too quickly...take your time as you have already planned to do. Smart Girl You Are!!!
OK, Ladies I have to go...more Later!
Christmas is Jesus, Peggy

Peggy, you should do sugar cookies with the kids if they're old enough. I miss that now that mine are far away and too old.

58 today but winds are making it chilly. At least it's sunny though.
I need to get cards started, I'll be doing a lot less this year as I won't have Matt's family and friends to send to. Benny said he's got a drawer full of Christmas cards I can have to use as he doesn't send them out. I haven't looked at them yet but his wife had horses on everything so they probably wouldn't be the cards I would buy but they're free. I may work on those this weekend while I'm up there.
Lenora - the peanut butter cookies with kisses stuck in them would be a good one too. The kids can unwrap the candies easily although typically eat half of what they unwrap lol.

It's a quiet weekend on the porch! We had a nice visit with Grandma, she leaves very early in the morning so the kids and I have already said bye. I managed to get my house manageably clean before she got here so I didn't feel too self-conscious. Overall it went pretty well.
I used my b-day money to get myself a kitchen table. I don't know the history of it but it was at an antique store (and probably in someone's barn before that). Brought it home and hubby put some linseed oil on it and it looks great in my kitchen (the chairs aren't old but they looked good with it in the store and we made a deal for the whole set). The pic is before he oiled it so it looks a little nicer now.
I'm going to use it for keeping my crock pot on when I have something going so it isn't taking up counter space and as a tea table for me otherwise. Hubby wants me to crochet a runner for it because there was one on it at the store and he liked the look. I'm going to make a hot pad for the crock pot just to be sure the heat doesn't damage it.
I was just checking my December schedule and am very happy that there isn't much on it. I'm hoping for a restful month full of cleaning/organizing/purging, planning for the new year, and training my kids. I need to take them back to some very basic habits of good manners and respect and work on those.
Just thought I'd check in before I go to bed. Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Sabrina - LOVE the table. Don't you love it when you find great finds like that! I get so frustrated that people paint them and then want to charge a ton because they threw a coat of paint on it that I didn't want. The chalk paint thing needs to stop, if I want it painted I'll paint it lols
Well they upgraded us from winter advisory to blizzard status today. Thankfully I came back last night instead of Monday morning like I have been. It's pretty though, big fluffy snowflakes. I think we've gotten a good inch in the hour or so it's been snowing, sleet before that. If this keeps up we'll get way more than the 3" they're predicting.
We started working on decluttering this weekend and got quite a bit done. There was an entire room he'd thrown stuff into that will be my craft room and we made a pretty good dent in it. He hadn't gotten rid of his wife's clothes and stuff so we boxed that all up this weekend and threw out the stuff that was stained/ripped and couldn't be donated. He'll probably bring it down here the next time he comes down and we'll take it to Salvation Army. Friday was the 3 year anniversary of her death so I was surprised he wanted to work on it this weekend. Looks like Christmas decorating will be next weekend.
Well I need to get moving to work. They hired my replacement Friday and I think she's coming in today for some training. I have orientation tomorrow and half day Wednesday and will start the new job totally on Monday. It will be nice not to have to get up early to drive back to be at work at 9 especially with the road conditions getting worse.
Have a great day everybody!

Funny you mention the paint Tammy, we were actually considering another table that had a white coat of paint then was "distressed."The paint annoyed hubby, it would have looked ok in the room with the paint but it wasn't a very good paint job really. Then we were walking around thinking about it and looking at chairs and I liked the chairs you see here (they aren't really old but I liked the look) and they were next to this table but it was so unassuming and there was stuff on top of it we didn't notice it right away. The drop leaves need supports and it will come apart and take a center leaf but the leaf was no longer with it so eventually hubby will work on those for me but not but rush there.
A couple days ago I made butter and now I have a quart of buttermilk I'm trying to figure out what to do with!!

Wow Sabrina, a beautiful find. I really like those chairs too! We are having temps in the 50's still. I have roofers coming next week to fix a small area. Shouldn't take them long. Sure hope they get here before it snows. They are cutting it close, but it couldn't be helped because of a 3 week rainy period we had back In October.

Sabrina...Love Your Table and Chairs...Great Find! I'm with Tammy on the Painting and trying to distress something. It will get distressed enough with daily use. I like the Chairs too. I have a black long table and I have broken two chairs just trying to get a kink or two out of my back. When I stretched the backs broke on the chairs. The set is only 5 yrs old. They just don't make furniture like they used to...heavy and solid. I have thought about getting a miss-match of 4 differrent chairs all in different colors. So far haven't found what I want yet. One of your chairs would work perfectly! LOL ~ I even thought your table looked great before your hubby used linseed oil on it. I bet it looks spectacular now.
Nora...I did not make Christmas Cookies with the Grandkids...because their live in Grandma will be doing that with them. But we had a lot of FUN the whole time they were here. We went for a walk with the dog and they really enjoyed that! Savannah turns two on the 12th of this month but she is growing so fast. She is quite the little go getter. She is Fearless about everything but Grandpa (she is afraid of my hubby) and the dog when we are all inside the house. LOL But she deals with him fine when we are outside. LOL
Judy...Hope your Roofers beat the impending snow! We finally get a break from the rain for a week...and I'm so Happy about that. But it is colder...which affects my RA...especially in my fingers. I think they shoot horses when they get this problematic don't they??? LOL All I know is that growing Old isn't for Sissies!
Hope everyone had a great weekend. And that Everyone's December "To Do List" is only full of Fun Days and Events. Jesus would have us ALL to Receive His Love, Joy, and Peace This Holy and Happy Season!!
Love, Hugs and Christmas Joy, Peggy

Wow is it quiet on the Porch! Where is everybody? LOL
Finished my last day of Orientation for the new job today. Came into the office thinking I would only be here 2 hours to be informed they wanted me to stay until 5 (sigh). They're on a deadline and apparently I'm stuck here because they are. The thing is most the stuff I need to do I should wait until my replacement is here tomorrow to show her how to do it. I start on Monday. They tried to get me to work this weekend even though it's my weekend rotation off - nope I'm going to the farm and I'll start Monday lol. They also changed my schedule and now I have Christmas off. I'd just typed up my notice that I would be closing my pet sitting service with availability for Christmas since I had to work so I'm glad I didn't print it out as now I have to change everything.
Orientation got out early yesterday and I could have come into the office but decided to do some work at home. Took nearly everything out of the pantry closet and started getting that organized and one of the kitchen cabinets so that I could put away about a dozen cloth bags and several boxes of food that I brought over from Matt's place. I had the bags and boxes in the hallway, kitchen and all over my craft room so now I have a path in my craft room to finally be able to get to stuff again. I have a flour mess to clean up as Lacey ripped open a bag of soy flour. Cleared out several boxes in the kitchen too. Still need to move some stuff to basement but I'm finally seeing progress! Threw out several garbage bags of food as the boxes were open and I couldn't remember when they'd been bought so figured it was safer to toss them. I have a bunch of boxes of open pasta I need to put into mason jars before putting away.
Does anybody know how long beeswax is good for to make candles? Does it lose it's smell? I have something like 10 - 1# blocks of beeswax that I bought over 5 years ago, maybe 10, and haven't used. Use them or toss?

Hi My Porchies...I think Prairie Tammy is right...where is every one???????????? I know it is that busy time of year but I think some of you must have gotten lost in a snow drift or something! LOL None of that going on here I'm happy to say! Just trying to get all my stuff done. Tomorrow night is my Bible Study Christmas Party and then I can go full speed into doing my Christmas Cards! No Poem this year so far. I write down the words as God gives them to me and so far I got just a line or two and no more. Maybe it just isn't going to happen this year. It would be a first in about 27 years...but hey maybe people are just tired of them and God knows that but I don't. LOL
Prairie Tammy...I hope that you enjoy your new job! And good for you NOT working this weekend. It bugs me when employers think you owe them...when if it was them letting you go...they could care less about you. They give you 10 minutes notice and walk you out to your car to escort you off their property. At least that is how they do it here. ~ I don't know how long beeswax is good for...that is a great question. Judy might know! I have some old soap left overs from one of the other farmgirls and I was always going to melt it down and put it in molds and I think I have had it about 5 yrs too. Probably will just throw that it the dump. I just hauled off 3 more boxes of stuff I'm cleaning out today. It makes me feel good to get rid of stuff. I fill a box and then haul it out to my trunk and when it is almost full I run it to a Thrift Store. Today I had to run it as I needed my trunk for Grocery Shopping. So, that worked out really well. It forced me to empty it right away. LOL
Judy are you lurking??? And Teacher Tammy where oh where are you girlfriend??? I don't like rounding up the Posse during the Holidays but you girls are tempting me to. Don't make me have to put my hands on Judy's hips...it won't be pretty if I do!! ROFLOL
Good Night and Sweet Dreams, Peggy

Hi gals, I'm sort of lurking I guess. Tammy, I have a package of organic beeswax particles from Bulk Herb Store in Lobelville, TN, and it doesn't have an expiration date on it either... BUT it has a phone number... so I called and found out that beeswax can last indefinitely if it's still sealed. If it's open and you are just using it for candles, it still lasts a very, very long time. My package has some interesting folklore on it.... In Egyptian times it was used in shipbuilding. Romans used it for waterproofing. (I like that idea) Even if it wasn't perfect, you could use it for waterproofing stuff. Cool! So, it sounds like you can keep yours. It's been used as payment and for paying taxes back in ancient times. I wouldn't throw away something so valuable. I'm sure you can Google lots of uses for it. Enjoy! I saw snowflakes today. It was sunny after that. Now it's dark and windy... BUT... our small factory across the street had the mowing company out mowing. Now THAT'S just nuts! They were dressed like mummies mowing grass. Enough already! (doh, I see more tiny flakes) hahahaha Patsy called day before yesterday and told me that Jim's' niece(Graces oldest daughter), Heidi, had a swollen leg the other day and Grace took her into the E.R., and they found out that she had a blood clot brought on by stage 3 cervical cancer(3 large tumors) which is also in her lymphnodes, maybe in her lungs and who knows where else. How can something like that happen without her feeling anything, until the swollen leg. She's the one with the special-needs daughter(Aiden)that wasn't suppose to make it past age 2 but is now 7, but with the mental ability of a 4 year-old, and a H.S. age boy(Devin)who is a BIG help with his sister, whom he loves a lot. Patsy and I 'Fasted&Prayed' for them yesterday till evening. Like Jesus said, 'Some things can only be done by Fasting&Praying!" So we did! I hope as God leads you, you will say a Prayer for them also! Thank you in advance! God WILL Bless You for it!

Judy that's terrible about Heidi. Will keep her in my prayers for sure. She could have just had so much on her mind that she dismissed little things that could have alerted her. You never know about these things. Just terrible for her and her family especially this time of year.

I forgot to say that she's still in hospital undergoing 4 days of radiation and 1 day of chemo. If it shrinks the tumors then they want to do internal radiation and then surgery. They weren't THAT aggressive with anybody else that I know that had cancer. I Pray for more of the hope and faith that they seem to have...for the Children's sake! Grace sold her house in N.C. and moved back here after Jim passed away and Patsy moved to KY. She moved in with Heidi temporarily, which turned out to be a good thing!! Heidi's 2 sisters are here with the family too.

Judy...so sorry to hear about Heidi. That is sooooooooooooooo rough! You just never know about the aggressiveness of cancer. Sometimes there are warnings and some time there are non...until it has progressed too far. I just said a prayer for her and the Family! I Hate Cancer...it is really such a devastating disease and so few survive it. ONLY GOD can make the difference. I'm glad that you and Patsy fasted for her. Now only time will tell. Tonight at our Christmas Party we prayed for our Sister Kim Varnal who underwent so much last year with her fast growing cancer...but we are all so Happy that she is having Christmas with Jesus this Year... and is no longer in pain and suffering. She fought the good fight and WON in the best way in the end. Home with Jesus...it doesn't get any better than that.
I am tired tonight but it was a really good day and a really great Evening with my Sisters In Christ...Celebrating Jesus Birthday! He is utterly Faithful and we are blessed to have His Amazing Grace and Unfailing Love.
Nora dear I got you Christmas Card yesterday...Thank You. Mine will be going out next week.
Love and Christmas Blessings of JOY, Peggy

Happy Saturday ladies, I am sorry for being AWOL so to speak. It has been a busy week at school. OUr Christmas program and cookie walk is tomorrow. So I have been up to my eyeballs in practice. We do a musical with me as the music director and we have a drama director and dance director. Can I just say I am way out of my comfort zone as music director. I can sing but I don't direct. The music has been hard and I have had to really practice on my own so I look like I know what I am doing. I will be relieved when it is over.
I do have to share a few stories. OUr preschoolers informed me the other day zombies had taken over Christmas. That just cracked me up. I also got a marriage proposal from a very handsome kindergartener. He said Mrs. SChroeder I am going to marry you. I said did you talk to Mr. SChroeder. He said I am going to marry you anyway and you will love it. oh my I could just hug him to pieces. He said that I must wear ninja turtle shoes. Seriously yall I can't make this stuff up.
Judy I will be praying for Heidi. So sorry to hear of this.
Sabrina lovely table Well I think I best get back to work. Wrapping presents doesn't happen by itself. lol love and blessings Tammy

Congratulations on the engagement, Tammy. Will it be a long one? We're having a little bit of snow today. Suppose to be really cold this weekend. Duke takes his nose and pushes the snow up in a ball and eats it. He's enjoying his first snowfall. My sister's Christmas get together tomorrow.

Hi Teacher Tammy...glad to see you on The Porch...we have been missing you. I Love, Love, Love The Marriage proposal. I had a five year old Sunday School Student that proposed to me one year. Like you...I took it as the highest form of flattery. Just too stinken cute. And I suppose that the Zombies could take over Christmas if you don't watch out! ROFLOL I love when you share those stories.
Nora...I bet Duke is loving the snow. You need to take a snow picture of him and share it. My dog loves the snow too. But once he comes in from outdoors he has snowballs hanging from his belly and paws and I have to pick them off one at a time. Even though he is a Scotty I don't keep the long skirt to the floor on him because I don't like him dragging all kinds of stuff into the house on his skirt. He use to drag big old slugs into the house at night on his skirt. That is just too gross for me. My son and DIL have the brother to my dog and they do keep the Scotty skirt of hair on him. It looks more authentic to the breed but I just can't do it. Plus that long hair wicks up water like a mop. Too disgusting for this neat freak Scotty Lover.
OK...need to get going again on my million Christmas Cards...if I hope to get them out before New Years. LOL
Have a Beautiful Day Girls!!!
Christmas Joy, Peggy

Hi Girlie, Nora, thank you for the card. You were my first card. Like Peg, I will be doing mine this weekend and mailing them out next week. Its in the mid 30's here but no snow. We had a skiff of it when I got up yesterday morning but none today. We went to Amish country yesterday but it was so cold we didn't do the outdoor walks from store to store. We didn't take out hats, gloves, scarves and heavy coats. We were just dressed for lighter shopping indoors. Maybe next weekend we'll try again. Thank you Gals for all your Prayers!

Good morning everybody! Hope everybody had a great weekend. We put up some decorations at the farm and Jasper helped. I thought the snowmen theme would work best with him this year. I swear this boy gets bigger every time I see him. I found out last week they changed my schedule and I have Christmas off now. It breaks my heart his mom is supposed to have him for Christmas. I'm sure he'd have more fun with us. Several of Benny's sisters are coming in for Christmas and want to meet me.
We went over to Benny's buddy's house Saturday night and Jasper and I went out to the horse barn with his buddy's wife while she fed her horses (she has 12). After they were done eating she was letting them out and removing their feed buckets from the gates and putting the buckets on the ground. Jasper went up to a bucket and tried to pick it up but it was to large so quick thinking kid grabbed the bucket by the hanging strap and drug the bucket back to the feed area. He took about 4 buckets back before he lost interest LOL.
Saturday was bitterly cold due to the wind. We went out to the shed but he wanted to play outside. I got quite upset that Benny didn't take him in the Bobcat to feed the cows LOL. I assumed it wouldn't take long and he'd want back into the house as cold as it was - WRONG! He decided to go explore the graveyard of old equipment and vehicles. You should have seen his face light up when he saw it LOL He was climbing into and out of old vehicle frames and basically just had a blast exploring. I'd thought to take his sled from last year up if I could find it but they don't have any snow left at the farm.
Yesterday was a long day for me. When I'm at the farm I don't leave until Monday morning to come back so I had the 2.5 hour drive back with Jasper who thankfully slept the whole way back. Almost forgot I had to walk my dog client so had to do that after I got Jasper dropped off. Then started my new job last night. It went pretty well thankfully. Today I need to get my house cleaned and back in order.
Tammy - what a sweet proposal. Don't you wish you could get those sweet moments on video to always remember!
Well I need to get some cleaning done before I have to walk my client. I also need to get an announcement sent out to my dog clients about my closing the pet sitting business. I got a text this weekend for Christmas weekend that I had to turn down. It's hard to believe we're half way through December already. I'm going to have to get moving soon on packing. February can't get here fast enough.
