Howdy Gals! What a gorgeous morning we are having here! I'm loving this low humidity after all that we had before! :) Welcome Sue! This is a great place to come back to after a hard day of doing whatever. We all get to catch up.Enjoy! Kimberly, we are just as glad to have you here as you are glad to be here. You are a joy...as are all of my Porchie Buds! I had butter pecan ice cream last night. It was light and smooth...and then....(bump)....a pecan!! hahahahaha Gonna go see my Mama today. I had a rather morbid job to do last night. She had her Funeral dress cleaned and had taken the(raised) buttons off so they wouldn't get broken ....and I had to sew them back on for her to get it ready. Talk about a sad project. Hard to shake off that one. Dreamed weird dreams all night! You can probably all imagine. Mama and I are so close, and thinking of the next time we'll all see that dress.....*shiver...sigh* Make it a great day Gals!....*sigh*....I'm trying! Jusy need to "Cowboy-Up!"

Morning Ladies,
Tracy, I am so glad to hear you are feeling better and my oh my you are really having a time lately...
Pam, you are so welcome...I hope it helps some...it is tough to have bad water...ours is just hard but other than that it taste great...
Peggy, the ATC is beautiful. I love that poem, I would love a copy of it if possible...my younger brother is in remission from stage 4 colon cancer. They gave him 6 months to live after his colon surgery..because it was also in his liver too...but he took many months of chemo and doctor said it is a miracle he is still with us... Sorry, didn't mean to go into all that...the poem is beautiful. Thank you for Darlene's address too
FarmDream, I am the same way when I got to a fabric store...can spent hours just walking and looking...It seems so many people have had troubles with parents..I'm sorry for your and DH too.
Megan, I bet you will be good at anything you try...you just have so a great spirit and attitude...bet there isn't anything you can't do. Every time I read your post I see such a sweet heart, someone that cares so much for others...bless you..I am glad you have a great relationship with your Mom, I had a great one with my Momma too and miss her everyday.
Bunny, Sorry to hear about your quilt shop...these times are so tough on so many people, it really has effected our real estate business too. It's too bad you don't live close to all of us beginners, taking classes from someone that knows so much would be wonderful.
Kimberly, I am sorry that you have to suffer with that awful virus...but you seem to have a great attitude, which has to help. Take care of yourself. Wish I could try that chocolate ice cream too...I've made lemon, peach, strawberry and blueberry but haven't tried choc. yet..maybe one day.
Elaine, ooooo can't wait to see the pics...hope you wore a mask...dust can be so rough sometimes...
Judy, butter pecan ice cream sounds wonderful...would you care to share that recipe? :) I am so, so sorry to hear you having to get prepared for...ummm..you know...but I understand...so much...Prayers for you...just know I am hear to listen ANYTIME you need to talk. I lost my sweet Momma in 06 and miss her daily. {{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}
The jalapeno bread was awesome...DH said please save that recipe...so another in my cookbook. My Momma had a cookbook that she got when her and my Daddy got married in 1956. It was falling apart and my sister and I both wanted it...well Momma being Momma searched ebay and found the exact copy, same year and edition...but they were ring binded...so all of us could have one. She had written in hers so she did the same for mine and my SIL...so all three of us had a copy. I use it all the time...she even printed recipes she had in her head and put them in there too. Ok got to run...too many tears...to type anymore...I love you Momma...

Boy do I understand Mother issues. My mom was an artist and a spoiled brat. But she was independent and resourceful. She did not have a lot of patience with other people's weaknesses and could be difficult to get along with. However although she could have been a cripple due to a back injury at 13, she chose not to look at herself that way. I did have to laugh as my little sister when I was visiting. She felt that I really should have been very angry at Mom for losing her temper and taking a swing at me with a bail handled pressure cooking she was washing. I had passed that one off as I had been pretty mouthy and was just glad she missed me. I it truly amazing the way we all lived in the same house but the experiences were all so different. Peg, take care of yourself. We all make our own choices as you already know. Your mom can chose to be reasonable or not. If it hurts you, stay clear of it as much as possible. Judy, praying for you and His peace all over it. Praying for Darlene as well. I do hate that miserable spirit of affliction and all it’s nuances and misery. Bring on the tea and eclairs. More chocolate! Hugs all

Penny - My Epstein Barr went into remission YEARS ago. Of course it could come out any ol' time it wants but I'm not currently suffering with it. :) Your Momma sounds like one special woman!
Judy - Thanks! I find you all very comforting too. Must have been a difficult task with the dress. I don't even want to think about anything happening to my parents.
Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories |

Kimberly she was...I know others say that too but I got to admit, everyone loved her...I lost her in 06 and my DH says a day doesn't go by I don't mention something about her..I didn't realize that until he said it, but guess he is right. She was a very special woman. I am so glad you are in remission...I will keep you in my prayers that it stays that way.

What a privilege to share tender words and priceless moments with each of YOU.
Penny...Kimberly...Megan...Judy and the rest of you with close relationships with your Mom's...I am so thrilled for each of you. I could tell Penny that this subject was a bit hard on you...sorry about that. And Judy, is your mom really ill or something? I am thinking that working on her funeral dress could NOT have been easy. Mercy me! When all is said and done...I still love my Mother (after all she is my Mother for heavens sake) and I try very hard to honor her as the scripture tells us to but I have very little respect for her. There is a huge difference! ~ Anyway, on to more pleasant things.
My garden is finally producing. I have a bunch of green tomatoes now even on my eight foot Heirloom plants. Yeah we may have tomatoes after all. I need to go out and pick some more peas and beens today. I have just been cleaning them and then throwing them up in the freezer. I can't wait to make a big Pot of beans, bacon, onions, and new potatoes. I can make an entire meal off of that alone. Yummy!
Penny & Others...thanks for the info on making your own laundry soap. I probably won't end up doing that even though it sounds good. My Apt. is only 778 sq, ft...and very little storage space. But I admire you gals who are doing it. I really do.
Elaine...is it the dust that was making you sick? Hopefully it will clear out soon. Keep opening your windows. You also might try a non-drowsy allergy pill for a few days. I bet your home looks beautiful though. Seems like a little bad always comes along with good and visa versa.
Julie and Bunny your discriptions of Fabric and your love of it ...reminds me of how I feel around books. That is why I hang out in bookstores. Also it is exactly how I feel about the color and textures of yarn. I go nuts over them.
Well, I am tired (emotional fatigue this week) and need to go rest. Catch you all later My Porchies.
Cherime...did you say you were bringing tea and eclairs???? Just what the Dr. ordered!
Hugs and Smiles, peggy

Hi everyone. I know I have been MIA for a while now. Have been busy with garden and drying herbs. I also took on a temp job. Just for a week and looks like I might have another one coming in the next week or so.
I just finished putting the last touches on the September Christmas Ornaments so they are ready to be mailed as soon as September gets here. Could someone please send me the addresses for those who were in the exchange. I can not seem to find the list.
In the evenings I have been working on my quilt. Hoping to have it done by November. Am itching to start a new one.
Well ladies, know that I think of you all often and pray for each and every one of you daily. Until later.... be well!!
Hugs

Oh Peggy.........the Mailart is beeeeeeeeeautiful!!!!!!!! :) I'm sure she will appreciate it! Thanx again so much for your kindness and thoughtfulness.
Elaine.......I understand the dust dilemma.....experienced it many years ago.....not fun but well worth it. When I was first married, we lived in a four flat owned by my FIL and my hubby sanded all the floors down in our apartment so we could restain them to our liking. It was a mess. We had painted the walls in one room royal blue (it was for a red, white and blue theme for the boys) and the walls looked velvety in the light due to the sawdust. But it was a drag trying get all that dust off the walls. But once all the work was finished, it turned out beautifully! :)
My best to all, Mel

Peggy, I agree with your comment about honoring your mother. I don't like or respect my mom. But I do my best to feel blessings that she allowed me to live with her during a tough time. When it gets really bad.. I chant... "I bless you and thank you" in my head as many times until I calm down. Judy, thankfully my mom has all her arrangements made already. What an emotional thing to have to do!
Peggy, my book problem is as bad as my fabric problem. I use to have a gift shop that had a book area that was as big as the gift area. I sold used books as well as a very large childrens area. It was a great way to deal with my "book" problem. I got to read all I wanted and then sell it to someone else. I of course was able to tell them all about the book and most people would buy it. The children's books were my favorite. I would read every book that came in so I could tell the parents if it was a decent book for their child. Some books have some hidden stuff that can be a bit stressful. I also have a "dish" problem. I could have numerous dish patterns and store them like Martha Stuart does in a big closet. I have had to really pare down everything because of my move. I gave all my books away. Hardest thing to do.
Anyway, in the basement... need to sew! later porchies,
Bunny

Penny - I don't think the water tastes bad...but since I grew up with it, it doesn't bother me. Some people don't like the taste of it, but it's "home" to me lol.
Julie, that is a very cute apron - I love it! I bought an apron a few years ago from some of the Hutterites outside of the city & I love it! It's big enough to go all the way around & ties in the back...and it's white & blue stripes :). I often use it when I'm baking for the day, and it has yet to get a stain on it :).
Think I'm going to do a teeny bit of mending today - well, it's not really mending, but I have this beach cover up thing for my bottom half that I want to sew up the side & make a bit smaller. Let's hope it works! Sometimes my "bright ideas" are just disasters waiting to happen....
I was over at the daycare today & got so many hugs & kisses from the kids - I love it! I'm with the school-agers in the school, so going back over to the daycare is nice :). Once September/school starts, I'm back over at the daycare which is fine. It was really hot today, so we were playing water games outside with the school-agers. We don't have an actual tap to turn the water on :(, and the custodians came & took "our" pliers (they are technically the custodians...but we can't get the tap on & off without them!)...so I'm not sure if it got shut off or not. My co-worker was going to work on it. Maybe she'll mention to the custodian that we would like a tap instead of using the pliers all the time.
Life isn't about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself.

What a darling aporn! I am becoming inspired to do a little sewing (outside of my quilting).
Thought I'd sweep the porch and set out some strawberry lemonade. Just in case somebody stops by. I have about an hour to relax before heading for the airport. Back Monday night. I think MIL may have a computer that works. She's 91 and that might be iffy. Take care - all of you - and to those who are teachers - *** applause*** you are wonderful. Have tons of fun with the kids this year!

Just looked at the pic and I'm not satisfied. I'm posting 2 more pics so you can see the pattern and colors better.
Peggy, I love books too. I think it's a texture thing. And an appreciation for well made, classic things. I don't have so many in the house. I sold a lot of them. At the time we needed the money.
While I was out I dropped a card in the mail for Darlene. We dropped off school supplies and found out a neighbor down the road has a daughter in DD's class. She offered me a job to babysit for an hour after school everyday. I'll probably give it a try. I told the mom to call me tomorrow when it was quieter. Just going to watch a little murder mystery and work on my little quilt or blanket. Have a good evening.

Hi Theresa, I'm not sure I've met you yet..but if I have forgive me old age creeping in...lol...nice to meet ya.
Peggy, I also have just alittle space, so I only made a container full, container is about 3 lb size...so doesn't take up much room....I couldn't imagine making the liquid in such a large quantity. You don't have to make much at one time with the powder... Books have always been one of secret little pleasures. I have always had one or more books I'm reading at the same time. My Momma said I started reading at age 3, don't know about that but she didn't lie so must be true...When I was growing up we lived out in the country and Momma said books were my friends...lol..I think she was right.
Pam I understand about the water, people used to say that about my Moms too and some people say that about the water here too.
Darlys, thanks for the strawberry lemonade...Stay safe see ya Monday.
I made a skirt today, first thing I've sewn in years...it turned out pretty good, I found a skirt called a yoga skirt and it was so easy...hardest thing was picking out the fabric..lol..Well I am off to read some more and look at my MJF magazine that came today.

Wow! Lots of chatter since I was here last! How wonderful! Peg, that card wa beautiful...what a talent! Penny, Sorry, that wasn't homemade ice cream, but it was delish and not very sweet either. I hate some of the really sweet ice creams from the stores.I miss my Daddy too so real BIG(((Hugs)))to you. He's been gone 2 years now, but it still hurts. Cherime, I like your thinking girl...more chocolate!! LOL Kimberly, that tagline of yours is so sweet. I can just see children giggling and playing! Peg, my Mom isn't sick...just preparing for the inevitable. She has everything done at the funeral home(Bunny). She just has bad eyesight and can't see to sew anymore...so....enter Judy.lol Yum, my favorite meal Peg...don't forget the cornbread! *giggle* Julie, pretty apron...I love red!Good job! Pam, I love to mend. And I know what you mean...I can see things in my head, but can't get them to materialize. Well, Mom's cat(Charlie) gets buzzed tomorrow. He loves going to the "Kitty Beauty Paw-ler" He's such a good boy for the lady. She just raves about him. He just turned 10 and he's a huge yellow&white long-hair. He gets a bath and a buzz and we tell him he's such a pretty kitty and man, does he ever strut. He sure is a lot cooler that way....and he gets to keep his big, fluffy tail. Well, g'nite Gals!
P.S. Staci, I got my yummy smelling "TeaBags" Rasp/Quincetea today. Ma and I drooled over the fragrance!Thank You!!I got 2 farmgirl envelopes today and took them to Ma's to open and share the joy with her! Your Granny's sound like great women. My Gr-Grandma was like that. My Mama still has lots of spunk too at 83! God Bless the "Strong-Older-Women!"

Hi all! Theresa, I hope that you're doing well! Penny, I'm glad your skirt turned out! And thank you very much:) I try to be as bright as possible! Sometimes that's a problem, though, as sometimes when I'm in an emotional situation, I put up walls. But I like to try and be bright! Elaine, I'm glad that you're back in your house! Julie, what an adorable apron! Darlys, I hope you have a good trip! So, yesterday I posted about sending me birthdays and addresses, then I realized not everyone will know what I'm talking about! I took this job from Darlene, so I'm trying to put together an updated list! Here on the porch, we like to celebrate birthdays. I will post about birthdays as they come up, and once I get the list together, I will email everyone with an address list with the birthday so that if you wish, you can send little trinkets or a card. Or, if you just want to send a letter/RAOK to a porch sister, you can use the address list for that as well! So if you want to be on the updated list, please email me! Today was great for me. I took my cousins to the mall this morning, then I had rugby practice! Last one for the week. Then next week school starts! Whoo-hoo! I hope everyone has a fabulous Friday! God's and Farmgirl's Blessings, Megan

Hello My Porchies...I came on here last night and got halfway through a long post and next thing I knew I was starring at a blank message board. Grrrr! I was tired and it was late and I just didn't have the heart to start over again. So I didn't get to tuck you all in last night...sorry about that!LOL
Just got back from walking my Scotty Dog, made aome waffles and a pot of Texas Turtle Coffee. There is more left if anyone cares for Brunch.
Judy...is it Jailhouse rock the song or the movie? Don't you just love Elvis? My little sister from the time she was two...always said that she was going to grow up and marry Elvis. lol Oh well, everybody needs a dream to live by. haha
Megan...you are such a good cousin...taking them all to the Mall. I use to love going to the Mall with my girlfriends when I was your age. Even if all I could buy was a bottle of nail polish I had fun doing it. Wow...the big sophmore starts school next week. Now you will be able to show the frshmen the ropes huh? It is always better to be an upperclassmen than to be the freshman in High School.
Penny...good for you on making a skirt. You Need to post a picture of it...so we can all see it.
Julie...I absolutely love your apron! The fabric is so bright and cheerful. I would put that apron on and dance around my house (probably to Elvis) doing my chores lickety-split. Oh, I might even wear a Tierra with it...just for fun!
Ok...now that I've brought up housework...I better go get some done. I will drop back on The Porch Later girls.
blessings, peggy

Ok Peggy here it is...it looks better on than on the hanger..but it is cute... Now I want to make an apron since it seem to be a Farmgirl thing...any suggestions on what kind is the easiest? I wish I had my Momma's talent, she could sew anything and I mean anything... <3

Penny - I'm going to say you inherited some of your Momma's talent because that's a nice skirt. I love aprons. Infact I just hinted to my mom that I'd like another!!! :)
Judy - Thanks. It's my new moto so I don't feel so wretched when I absolutely can not keep my house magazine perfect. I think my children's childhood is so much more important than the opinion of the anal retentive folks who eye my home critically. Not that my house is dirty but my couches are always made into "homes" with cushions and blankets, there's a Thomas the Train track running through the livingroom, I have to fight to keep my kitchen toy free and my house is very much home looking rather than show house looking.
Whew, so I'm trying to catch up on the weed situation around here. Yeah right! We're on virgin ground so my garden has all the grasses working to dominate it. I've got prickly lettuce coming out the wahzoo. I've been pulling up the tumbleweeds and giving them to the goats and horse because they eat it up like candy. Someday, someday I'll have a yard with a flower/herb garden and a lawn for the children to play on. Someday I'll have everything looking neat and tidy and pretty and welcoming. But right now, well it looks pretty hillbilly. But we did get our storage shed (rental) so everything is off the verandah now so atleast it doesn't look so messy. Then my dog decided to be oh so helpful. She got into my stash of popcorn cobs and thought they were a great chew toy so now I've got corn growing all over the yard.
It's so nice to share your lives with you. And to share mine with you.
Blessings,
Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories |

Made zucchini bread today and my little chefs were helping.
My mom made the apron my daughter is wearing and I made the apron my son is wearing AGES ago for myself. Just thought I'd share their adorableness. :)
Excuse the mess & the noise, my children are making happy memories |

That turtle coffee sounds yummy! I personally love hazelnut coffee, but since coffee doesn't always agree with me, I don't have it very often. Virtual coffee is better anyhow :).
It was a kind of long day at work...we only had 3 school-agers til basket ball camp was done, even after that, we only had 5. Today, they made jello jigglers (with 4 different kinds of jello :s), cookies with Kendra, soaps (melt & pour), and had hot lunch of perogies, ham & corn. We went over to the main center by 4 & stayed there. Then, at the end of the day, I turned the a/c off (we're supposed to at the end of the day) and it went to heat, which sent the fire alarm off - talk about panicking! There was only one child left, which was good, but it sure gave us a start! Thankfully our director was still in town & she walked me through it (how to turn it off, do a walk through of the building etc), and came by to just double check along with us that everything was alright. So that was good. Happy to be home & back to "not much going on!" lol. I've had about enough of fire alarms/fire drills for the summer.
Tomorrow I'm going to the "city" haha - the only thing that makes it a "city" is that it has WalMart.
I think it's almost time for a vacation! I'm getting tired & stressed & don't want to do anything - another week, then I get to relax & veg for 10 days - woohoo!
Life isn't about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself.
