Well, I was all excited because my DH has been working really hard at building his vacation time up so he could stay home and help get everybody on a new schedule once baby Eden arrives.
This past weekend he started having severe pain in his upper abdomen and wouldn't you know....his gallbladder stopped functioning and they have to remove it. Guess what....the recovery time is exactly the amount of time he has accrued. SO that means he'll have to take a day without pay for Eden's birth and then go back to work the next day.
I get to bring a baby home from the hospital and then try to get our sanity back with 4 kids 4 and under all by myself
I am trying so hard to be ok with everything, but I need prayers because I know it's going to be awful hard. My poor hubby feels so bad....like it's something he could help.
I have struggled with post partum depression after every baby and so I am a little concerned about going through that alone as well.
Please just say a prayer for my little family as we work through all of this over the next 7 weeks.

Misty, I am so sorry for you and your hubby. I will be praying for you both. Just remember God is in control. We may not see or understand his plans but afterwords we say oh wow I see how Gods plan worked out for the best. When is the Eden due? Keep us updated on you and hubby! Blessings,Karen

That's rough, Misty. I wish we had guaranteed parental leave for both parents in this country, the way most countries do.

What about the Family and Medical Leave Act? http://www.dol.gov/esa/whd/fmla/

Does it somehow not apply to your husband's workplace? I would think that your post-partum depression would count as a family member with a serious medical condition.

Oh, and of course the gall bladder surgery is a serious illness for your husband in the first place...it seems so wrong that he should have to use his vacation time for that.

Although I just learned from my mom that my dad's union doesn't grant him sick days. Who would have thought? If he gets sick, he has to use vacation time or not get paid unless it stretches out into a long enough period to be covered by disability. No wonder my dad always goes to work sick. I thought he was just stubborn.

Misty, good luck to your little family. It somehow all works out like it supposed to...somehow. Please make sure you mention to your doctor your history of postpartum depression. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, Carol

I had a friend go thru something like this a few years back, and his co-workers each gave him 90% of their sick days, and the company had no problem with it.

Thanks for all of your kind words. Brought tears to my eyes...really.
Eden is due November 07 so we are on the last stretch now! My hubby checked into the FMLA and the deal is it only really means they have to hold his job but it doesn't help with his time (or lack thereof). They have a leave bank but that only cover's the employee's so it won't give him anytime for the baby.
My mom and 3 of my sisters will be available to help out for the first several days at least...so I do have some help. I just really wish my DH could be with me.
To top all of this off....my grandmother, who is 102 (no, it's not a typo) is in the hospital with pneumonia and dehydration. Please say a prayer for her as well. Speaking realistically here....it is going to be very, very hard for me to get to Pittsburgh (5 hours away) if there will be a funeral. I am just begging God to give a little mercy and grace during this time.
I sincerely do thank each of you for your kind thoughts and prayers.

Misty, I wish we knew each other so I could help you out, I don't live that far from you. I am praying for you and your family. And as noted before, please make sure your doc is aware of your postpartum depression. I too went through it and it is really tough. Hang in there dear!

Misty, I will say a prayer for you and your family. I agree to let the doctor know about the postpartum depression. Let us know too. I am sure many on here will be of great encouragement to you. Sometimes just having someone to talk to helps. Praying for you.

I want to thank each one of you for your kind thoughts.
My husband had surgery on Friday and we were thrilled everything went well so he will only have to take the two weeks (vs. what could have been 8 weeks).
He has enough time to cover that so we won't be without a paycheck!!!
My grandma is home from the hospital but her days are numbered without a doubt.
I am hoping to get to see her before DH goes back to work but once he can watch the kids ok.
We are hoping that some of DH co-workers will be kind enough to donate a few hours to his bank so he can take a day or two when baby comes! My midwife is aware of my problems with recovery after babies so I will take medication for a few weeks after she arrives.
Thanks again so much for all the kind thoughts! It means so much to me to have a place to "unload" my problems and know there will be people who understand!!
