I just found out that my father has colon cancer. He begins chemotherapy on the 20 of this month-- once a week for 2-weeks then off 2-weeks for 7 months. I'm so afraid. My parents and I have had a very complicated relationship all of my life. I have been as close to him as I was able to be as my mother is very controlling and jealous and has forbidden him to see me or call me. I saw him last when my mother was in for surgery and for two weeks last spring we were able to reunite after eight years. I have not spoken to him since June. I don't want him to be more stressed by having me show up at their house or phoning and frankly I know that I will not be allowed in their home or allowed to speak to him if Florence answers the door or the telephone. I am devastated girls.
Sorry to dump on you with this but I needed to share with my farmgirls.
Please send prayers my way.
love,
Melody

I spoke with my sister yesterday and found out the chemo which will begin on the 20th will be 6 weeks on then 6 weeks off. Please ladies keep praying for strength and guidence. I can't do this alone.
Also, my mother is going in for surgery next week as they found a tumor on one of her ovaries which they will be removing along with a carotid endarterectomy procedure. She is 73.
thank you dears.

Melody,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad and hope you can clear up the problems. My mom had colon cancer but it was caught early and she had surgery to remove 21 inches of her colon and she didn't have to have treatments. Keep praying and we will pray for you.

Melody,
For someone as nice as you are this is not welcoming news. I hope that due to your fathers condition your mother can be less controlling. I hope that you will be able to talk with your father and try and ease his worries as well as your own.
In my family we are going through something similar in the way of cancer but in our case my sister-in-law is in the last phase of her cancer and the one thing I can hope for you is that you are able to talk with you father as much as possible. I know that my husband has come to terms with not being there (she is in Utah we are in Montana) by talking with her almost every week for the last 4 months. She is now possibly in the last days of her life but the one regret we will not be having is not having some type of communications with her prior to the end. I'm not saying your fathers case is terminal but one never knows when our time has expired.
I too have a mother who is more then controlling. My parents have since divorced in part to this problem but if I was in your situation I would still call even if she picked up the phone. Aggravating it might be but is your father worth it? I very much hope so.
Love and prayers for you in your time of need,
Madelynne

Melody -- You are in my thoughts. . . . Like Madelynne, I hope that during this time, your mother will allow visits between you and your father. And I'd encourage you to make the attempt, no matter how difficult she may be. You will not regret trying. My heart goes out to you.

Melody, Stand tall and try as much as possible to be with your father. I will be praying for you and your mom, so maybe she will come to her senses and I will pray for your father also for healing.

Oh, Melody, my thoughts are with you. My mother had colon cancer and it was cured for about fifteen years and then it returned . Don't lose hope. Why are families so weird sometimes? I think certain generations had very strange upbringings, lots of closed doors, lots of missing information. I hope you are able to communicate with your dad, and that he has success with the medical treatments. Remember to be really good to yourself too, Karin

I'm so very sorry to hear this Melody and hope you're able to find a way to talk to your father or see him despite bad blood. Sometimes illness has a way of bridging hurt feelings and anger so that families can reconnect. I hope and pray this will be the case for you. Huggzz
