I just wanted to say, that I got caught up with 2 years worth of wool! I finished carding it on Labor Day. So it is ready to spin. I do only have 2 sheep, but it was a job using a drum carder! This fall and winter I hope to get it spun up, and start knitting!

I am also hoping to get some fiber spun this winter. Doesn't it feel good when you have accomplished something like that:) I wish I had some wool, I have llama fleece and alpaca. I am thinking of spinning enough this winter to make the sweater shaw in this issue of MJF:) Happy Spinning!!

ok, now I am jealous of the both of you, sheep, llama & alpaca wool....all I have are 2 himalyan & 1 siamese kitties and my siamses sheds like crazy.....the other two just hack up hairballs....hmmm, wonder if I can 'card' & spin the hairballs! LOLOL! just kidding.
I think it is great that you have the ability to shear, card, spin & knit your critters fleece/wool.
Once you get your projects finished besure to post a pic for us to see.

Don't turn your back Michele or that wool would be the new batting in the quilt I'm just getting ready to baste together. Oh LOOK out the window! Now where is the door to get out? LOL
Just kidding I would not take all your hard work away.

Grace I have for years spun cat fur for owners who love their purring family members. Dog and cat hair are warmer then wool and spins and looks like Angora Bunny Projects. I have also made mittens from my Great Pry Dogs and then are so warm that I can only wear them breifly even in the coldest of days. As for the hairballs maybe you can string them together and make holiday garland - just kidding you would have to add glitter to fit the holiday spirit.

Michele sounds like you have been busy and I am sure you will have hours of joy spinning your fibers. I think there is nothing more wonderful then sitting and spinning someone's fiber that you have cared for during the year - that is why I do what I do!!

Happy Spinning

I have spun dryer lint but not hairballs. Felted fiber balls for cat toys so many the cats would like it if you finished the hairballs into play toys - sick but who knows you might have found a new niche market.

Grace, You are too funny! With the way some of the "cat mess yarns" sell, you never can tell what people may buy!

Waste not want not????!!!
Grace you sure come up with ideas!!
Melody, I have had that same thought! Got to remember to keep my door locked! :)
I am thinking of making myself a sweater, if I can find a neat pattern.
It is alot of work, going from sheep to the knitting needles. I do enjoy it or I wouldn't do it, That is for sure.

I would love to learn to card, but having had cancer, I have lymphedema in my right arm and am kind of afraid of cutting my right hand or arm....so I'll leave that alone I guess.

Oh do tell me Melody, have you ever used wool batting in a quilt? I have lots of batting but I was afraid the wool would shrink too much.

Katmom- Once I went to the L.A. county fair,& there was a woman who took cat fur sheddings & spun them on a wheel into yarn. No kidding! Made a very soft yarn. I don't know how she got the excess fur, perhaps friends saved theirs when they groomed their cats. Made a very soft yarn.
