Really, how cute is that? I started mine last night and I have six inches done. Only fifty-six more to go until I have it finished. Now to find some cute, big buttons!!

Thank you, MaryJane, for coming up with this! I love, love, love it.

I'm going to make it for my stepdaughter for Christmas. It's so pretty and it's something she can keep around her shoulders at work or at home. I'm probably only going to put one button on it however. Asymmetrical things just don't look right to me. I'm looking for beautiful green yarn -- my stepdaughter has very long red hair and green is totally her color!

Marjorie- Green will be perfect for a redhead! I chose to make it in gray because it's a bit more versatile. But I might have to make another one in red, just for something fun.

I don't have mine yet either ladies! I think the east coast gets them first! It seems everyone who has the issue is over there! Us California girls are last in line, I think!

I am going to make one as soon as I get my knitting skills up to par. I don't know how to do the button hole stitch yet so I am warming up my skills on the slippers first then I will do the shawl! I love it! I think it is so cute!

Don't worry if you don't have your new issue yet! The link for the PDF file is right here:

http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Recipes-Patterns-Instructions/sweater-shawl.pdf

You can find the links by clicking on teh magazine section of the home page and then just look for the link for project instructions. It's the first place I go when a new issue comes out!

Thanks Karin!! Diane aka frolicnfibers knits me scarfs with big buttons added to hold them in place. I thought the idea was so smart I added buttons to my crocheted long narrow shawl to keep in on my shoulders in the cool mornings so I can use my hands for other things. Just to clever an idea. My goal was to learn to knit this winter now I know my first project.

I too am going to make this sweater shawl as soon as I get my shrug done. I am trying really hard to finish a project before I start a new one. Notice I said finish "a" project (meaning, one project as I have lots of unfinished projects mainly socks knit to the heals. I then wait for the sock fairy to finish them because I just don't get the heel part. LOL) I only have a little more to knit on my shrug but I ran out of yarn yesterday. Darn! So now I have to wait until I can get to Michael's and hopefully they will still carry this color as it has been a couple of years (I bought - two years ago - and remodeled a house) since I started it.

So .. what kind of yarn did everyone choose?
