My husband is a town employee (in the landfill/re-use ctr), and with the benefits of that job, he brings home many wonderful things.

well today he brought home a 1951 singer sewing machine FOR FREE! The man who brought it in said it needed a little work, but that's ok. imagine how neat it would be to use?

it needs some cleaning. sometimes my husband says he gets those treadle types in, now that would be awesome! are parts easy to get for this machine? i see that the person who owned it before has a service tag on it from a local person who works on machines.

I learned to sew on a machine like that in the early '60s. Any Singer parts should not be too difficult to find, but a model that age may not have a slanted needle, so you have to be careful with attachments. It's a simple machine, but a great find.

EXCITING UPDATE!!!

Ok girls, i took my 1951 Singer apart, cleaned it, polished it, and SEWN with it! it works beautifully! I cant believe it!! I think there are 2 wires I may replace, the one for the light and one going into the motor just to be safe....but it works beautifully! and it came with a hard case.

wow, it's like Christmas!, lol

Wow, that is so wonderful, that is the same as the one my Mom also used and I learned to sew on. Great machines to still be in use today. I am over 60! Keep that man....:D Oh, by the way, don't let Katmom near it!
