Curiosity all a-tingle. Pg. 74 of the Oct./Nov. issue...I'd love to hear more about MaryJane's horse, see more of himher than hisher pretty wool saddle blanket and perfectly MaryJane saddle. Wonder if she would do a magazine cover horseback?

Well, LB is a girl horse for starters. Here we are:
I'm in the process of building a barn for her and my milk cow right now so she is a few miles away at my girlfriend's house, Juli Thorson, http://special.equisearch.com/blog/horsetalk/ (The saddle in the photo in the magazine is Juli's. Mine isn't quite so photogenic.)
LB came into my life about this time last year after a backcountry pack trip that I made into the Selway with Juli and friend Shelley. LB was my designated horse. I fell in love. After our trip, a series of unfortunate circumstances for her owners made her mine.
Once I get her here, you'll be seeing more of her! She is quarterhorse/appaloosa, 17 years old.

JoAnn, I think that back country trip was described in an article in an earlier issue of MJF this year (maybe May/June, but I'd have to check later). Didn't know, though, that MJ was one of the ladies involved who kept a horse.
That's very cool about Lightning Bolt, btw. I've always remembered the first horse I was assigned at horse camp as a junior high kid. Her name was Nestle Quik, and she was a sweet little chestnut thing who was assigned to me for the week. If I had been offered the chance, I definitely would have brought her home with me! (To our city garage? Well, I would have worked something out...) |

How great is it that MaryJane not only loves the Palouse, but she has a horse that was developed here? “A Palouse Horse” Just another layer of history appreciation, a great coincidence, or I don't know, but very cool anyway. I think I heard somewhere that there are actually fewer appys in the Palouse than elsewhere. Kind of weird for people to forget to appreciate locally special breeds.
Alee, I don't henhouse...I'm a wild farmgirl :). Would I still be able to chat horses so enjoyably if you housed up?
